“The campaign never ‘admitted to anything,'†a spokesman for Republican presidential candidate Ben Carson told The Daily Caller News Foundation in response to a hit by Politico claiming his campaign admitted to “fabricating†a key point about his West Point story.
“The Politico story is an outright Lie,†Doug Watts told TheDCNF.
Politico published a piece Friday claiming Carson’s campaign “admits fabricating†the fact that he applied and was admitted to West Point.
“Ben Carson’s campaign on Friday admitted, in a response to an inquiry from POLITICO, that a central point in his inspirational personal story was fabricated: his application and acceptance into the U.S. Military Academy at West Point,†Kyle Cheney writes in the lede.
The Carson campaign disputes Politico’s unsubstantiated claim he ever claimed to have applied to West Point or been admitted: “He never said he was admitted or even applied.â€
“This is what we have come to expect from Politico.â€
Here is the full statement Watts provided to TheDCNF:
“Dr Carson was the top ROTC student in the City of Detroit. In that role he was invited to meet General Westmoreland. He believes it was at a banquet. He can’t remember with specificity their brief conversation but it centered around Dr. Carson’s performance as ROTC City Executive Officer.
He was introduced to folks from West Point by his ROTC Supervisors. They told him they could help him get an appointment based on his grades and performance in ROTC. He considered it but in the end did not seek admission. There are “Service Connected†nominations for stellar High School ROTC appointments. Again he was the top ROTC student in Detroit. I would argue strongly that an Appointment is indeed an amazing full scholarship. Having ran several Congressional Offices I am very familiar with the Nomination process.
Again though his Senior Commander was in touch with West Point and told Dr. Carson he could get in, Dr Carson did not seek admission.
The Politico story is an outright Lie. Dr. Carson as the leading ROTC student in Detroit was told by his Commanders that he could get an Appointment to the Academy. He never said he was admitted or even applied.

Politico reporter Kyle Cheney, who has the byline on the Carson story, did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.
Carson has been caught red-handed claiming he was offered a “full scholarship” to West Point. West Point does not “offer scholarships”. Carson is a liar and needs to withdraw from the race. Carson in his own words.

It's called an "appointment", a necessary but not sufficient part of the nomination process to a service academy.
You fell for the Politico-mind-trick, along with other gullible so-called conservatives.
Westmoreland just happens to be dead so that story cant be verified and lying Ben can say whatever he feels like saying.
Is there anyone here who doubts that West Point admissions officers would not hesitate to accept a brilliant black cadet from Detroit?
This story is meant only to distract and dominate the news of the Hag story that just broke of her having signed the gov docs as Sec of State to keep Top Secret info secure.
Congressional appointments are not the only way to get into west point, so people need to stop with that.
Other ways include:
USMAPS — the US Military Academy Prep School, I think it’s still at Ft Monmouth, NJ, but I’m not sure of that.
Child of a Medal of Honor winner.
Athletic
US Military Academy Superintendent appointment.
Highly Qualified List not via Appointment on order of merit
Yep. Carson lied. Just like he said the vitamins story was a lie but he was lying about that as well.
I doubt this story is over. Carson’s campaign just called out the reporters at Politico.

Carson is worth about 40 million dollars. Fox has given him over a million dollars in the past year for his mumbling.

And especially in about 1970, a black kid from poverty, from inner city Detroit, who had brilliant grades, and who was the XO of his JROTC.
If he was the top ROTC student in Detroit and had the academics to get into Yale, I have little doubt that he was told by the relevant people that he would get in. In fact, his being black with those qualifications made admission a “gimme”. I’ve seen girlies and minorities get into the more selective AFA with lower qualifications than Carson had. So, I think the story is a smear.
No, I don’t support Carson - wonderful man but not tough enough and too liberal on some issues.
The media is trying to destroy Carson. Carson is the embodiment of MLK’s dream. The liberals hate him.
You really believe that? With Vietnam you don’t think there were kids in the same position whose parents refused them to go? And especially during the same time African Americans in the military were treated less than admirable in many units?
Dunno about that, but his dumbass campaign is shooting themselves in the foot with increasing regularity.
Not ready for POTUS. Can’t even run a front runner campaign correctly. EVERY front runner gets the anal probe treatment. He should have been ready. Amateurs.
Did he say it was in a YouTube video? Did it result in four men dying? Did he have a representative of the Whitehouse go on national television and say he was accepted to Westpoint? After all these years, WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?
