Open thread: Trump to make “Saturday Night Live” great again
Hot Air ^ | 11/7/2015

11:30 p.m. ET on NBC. If this guy can make this show funny, making America great again will be a snap.

If he’s smart, and he is, 80 percent of the jokes will be at his own expense. The intrigue lies with the other 20 percent. How nasty will he and the cast get with his competition? Tonight’s an unusual opportunity for Trump to humiliate the other candidates in front of a big audience, if SNL is willing to play along. A cutting joke about Carson or Bush or Rubio will become a prism through which some low-information voters view them going forward, just as Trump’s own “low energy” putdown of Jeb ended up sticking to him. That’s a big subplot tonight: How eager will the mostly liberal SNL writers be to help Trump score points against the rest of the field?

The other big subplot is whether anyone will disrupt the show. That dopey PAC that made the ad of little kids cursing at Trump over immigration has been publicizing a $5,000 reward for any audience member who shouts “Trump is a racist” while the broadcast is in progress. I’ve even seen speculation on social media that the cast itself might double-cross Trump somehow by doing something to humiliate him because of his politics. I’ll believe that when I see it, but this gets to the special intrigue of Trump appearing on this show of all shows: You never know what’ll come out of his mouth and you never know what might go wrong on live TV. Anything can happen.

that last skit was horrible. exactly ONE funny line in the whole thing. the rest wasn’t even worth a groan.

The opening was good but nothing tops the skit he did on jimmy fallon.

It is as if the candidates running for president are fighting a vote getting war from last century whereas Trump is fighting a vote getting war for the 21st century.

Even Hillary is way behind the times.

I think Trump was one of the better actors on the show tonight. Many non-actor guests (ie Hillary, a few weeks ago) fixate on the cue cards, and come off stiff and unnatural. Actually some of the current SNL regulars do the same... especially Michael Che in the "Weekend Update" skit.

As usual with SNL, most of the show sucked, but The Donald did a great job with the material provided to him. Larry David was hilarious as well, but at the end of the show, uber-lib David turned his back on Donald and Ivanka Trump. David's body language said it all...

I agree. Trump’s performance tonight on SNL was far better than the show itself...

Is there something wrong with her? Why did cover her face like that? Weird.

In 2008, Sia discussed her sexual orientation in interviews with Scotland on Sunday and AfterEllen.com,[77] and announced her relationship with JD Samson; they later broke up in 2011.[78][79] She was included on a list of gay entertainers in the June–July 2009 issue of The Advocate.[80] In both 2009 and 2010, Sia was nominated by readers of SameSame.com.au as one of the 25 most influential lesbian and gay Australians.[81][82] When asked about her sexuality, she said, “Before I was actually successful I’d always said I’ve always dated boys and girls and anything in between. I don’t care what gender you are, it’s about people. I didn’t just recently open up, I just recently got famous! I’ve always been... well, flexible is the word I would use.”[83]
Sia has suffered from depression. She has said that she suffered from addiction to painkillers and alcohol, and had also contemplated suicide before, going as far as writing a suicide note

Awful just awful. Nothing but commercials and terrible jokes.

Trump should run as far away from that show before he’s tarnished by it.

Still marveling how the hell it’s still on the air.

Maybe they get the studio rent free.

Beats me.

A bit bizarre - If this guy can make this show funny, making America great again will be a snap. "

Being able to clown around on a comedy show is not the first criteria I'd bank on for getting back our Constitutional rights, saving our country.

I wonder how many even know Cruz's background. He stands on solid ground. (And he' wipe the floor with Hitlery in a debate. with anyone, really - why do you think the press is doing everything they can to keep from giving him any coverage?

Excerpts, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Cruz :

"Cruz was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2012 ...He is the chairman of the subcommittee on the Oversight, Agency Action, Federal Rights and Federal Courts, U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.[6] He is also the chairman of the United States Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Space, Science and Competitiveness, U.S. Senate Commerce Committee.

Between 1999 and 2003, Cruz was the director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an associate deputy attorney general at the United States Department of Justice, and domestic policy advisor to President George W. Bush on the 2000 George W. Bush presidential campaign. He served as Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to May 2008, after being appointed by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott.... the youngest[5][9] and the longest-serving solicitor general in Texas history.[10] Cruz was also an adjunct professor of law at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, from 2004 to 2009.[11][12] While there, he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation.[11...

"Cruz openly identifies with the Tea Party movement and has been endorsed by the Republican Liberty Caucus.[17] On November 14, 2012, Cruz was appointed vice-chairman of the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

"During high school, Cruz participated in a Houston-based group called the Free Market Education Foundation where he learned about free-market economic philosophers such as Milton Friedman, Friedrich Hayek, Frédéric Bastiat and Ludwig von Mises.

"Cruz graduated cum laude from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Policy[42] from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs in 1992.[5][7] While at Princeton, he competed for the American Whig-Cliosophic Society's Debate Panel and won the top speaker award at both the 1992 U.S. National Debating Championship and the 1992 North American Debating Championship.[43] In 1992, he was named U.S. National Speaker of the Year, and with his debate partner David Panton won Team of the Year.[43] Cruz and Panton represented Harvard Law School at the 1995 World Debating Championship, but lost in the semi-finals to a team from Australia.[44][45][46] Princeton's debate team later named their annual novice championship after Cruz.

Cruz's senior thesis investigated the separation of powers; its title, Clipping the Wings of Angels, draws its inspiration from a passage attributed to US President James Madison: "If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary." Cruz argued that the drafters of the Constitution intended to protect the rights of their constituents, and that the last two items in the Bill of Rights offer an explicit stop against an all-powerful state.

Cruz served as a law clerk to J. Michael Luttig of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit in 1995[8][11] and William Rehnquist, Chief Justice of the United States in 1996.

Cruz has authored 70 United States Supreme Court briefs and presented 43 oral arguments, including nine before the United States Supreme Court.[8][49][60] Cruz's record of having argued before the Supreme Court nine times is more than any practicing lawyer in Texas or any current member of Congress.[

and on and on -

I think I'd bank on Cruz's record for CIC over a someone who could perform well on a comedy show - and a businessman that has gone bankrupt 4 times. (America can't afford a bankruptcy) -

So flame away - but judging someone to 'save the country' on the strength of a SNL performance is really stretching it...

ONE THING ALONE that Cruz has said for years - 'Abolish the IRS" - would be the biggest restorer of our freedoms since the country was born -
