The "Fight For $15" minimum-wage campaign demand might seem clear as day, but there's more than meets the eye — over $3 an hour more. Once all the nonwage costs, including payroll taxes, paid sick leave and the big one — ObamaCare's employer mandate — are added to the $15 base wage, minimum compensation for a full-time worker could rise as high as $18.55 an hour by 2020, an IBD analysis finds. It would be a jump of $10.75, or 138%, above the current $7.25 federal minimum and associated social insurance taxes.

Wages and social insurance taxes would add $8.34 an hour. A week of paid sick leave...

Outsourcing The Safety Net

Even a single mom with two children who works full-time at a minimum-wage job would no longer qualify for Medicaid — even factoring in ObamaCare's eligibility expansion to 138% of the poverty level. A single adult who works just...

ObamaCare Mandate Costs Ignored

...adding labor-saving technology such as fast-food kiosks.

Yep. I've been self-checking myself at Kroger for years, it's much faster than waiting in the cashier line.

And in the mean time, department store retail sales are in the toilet. Nordstroms missed big time and is now down $10.00 a share.

We very well may be in an era that began w/ bank tellers replaced by ATM's not going to driverless taxis.  The big problem is that so very few people will be able to afford them because right now the median employee compensation is less than $17/hr.   This means the $18.55 we're talking about here is going to outlaw the hiring of most U.S. employees.

Our kids are entering the work force with fewer and fewer valuable skills and automation is becoming more and more advanced. There will literally be no work for a lot of people...

Yes, what you say is all too true. I don't know the speed and timeframe of the continued shrinkage of jobs and work-hours/week but it truthfully seems like now.

These fools agitating for $15/hour for no-skill labor are just that, fools that will cause the service/retail outlets to adopt kiosks and automate food and other services as soon as possible.

As was said in the last debate, welding is a valuable skill whereas having a philosophy degree is less practical. And oh yeah, free tuition for all is another great idea - not!
