Cruz taken down by Santorum? Talk about your David and Goliath.
During the hearing in which he offered his amendments, Cruz touted them by saying that his would not interfere with the bill's provisions to provide legal status. "If this amendment is adopted to the current bill, the effect would be that those 11 million, under this current bill, would still be eligible for RPI status. They would still be eligible for legal status, and indeed, under the terms of the bill, they would be eligible for LPR [green card] status as well, so they are out of the shadows, which the proponents of this bill repeatedly point to as their principle objective: to provide a legal status for those who are here illegally to be out of the shadows. This amendment would allow that to happen."
Cruz went on to say that failing to pass his amendment threatened to kill the immigration bill's chance in the House of Representatives. "I don't want immigration reform to fail," Cruz said. "I want immigration reform to pass. And so I would urge people of good faith on both sides of the aisle, if the objective is to pass common sense immigration reform that secures the borders, that improves legal immigration, and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows. Then we should look for areas of bipartisan agreement and compromise to come together. And this amendment, I believe, if this amendment were to pass, the chances of this bill passing into law would increase dramatically."
The Cruz campaign is pushing back, emphasizing that the amendment wasn't a brand-new proposal to create a path to legal status for illegal immigrants -- that provision were already in the bill. Cruz was proposing that if the bill was going to legalize illegal immigrants, those legalized immigrants should not have an eventual path to citizenship. The campaign claims that the amendment, like the other four, were doomed to fail because they were considered poison pills by the Democrats in the Gang, led by Chuck Schumer. No path to citizenship, Schumer insisted, no immigration reform. Killing Cruz's amendment proved that, says the campaign.
Context folks, context.
I remember the point Cruz was trying to make here and it’s dishonest, to say the least, to try to spin this as support for Rubios bill.
I just KNOW Ted Cruz wouldn’t do this. I know it, I know it, I know it!
The problem with the visa program is that all those educated foreigners just mostly take jobs away from educated Americans -— and keep wages low for most of the rest of our own citizens who happen to be fortunate to still have jobs in the great Obama depression The visas am were supposed to be given only to those foreigners possessing skills Americans lack. Unfortunately there are millions of highly- skilled and qualified USA citizens who can’t get jobs - and sometimes can’t even get interviews or any consideration for jobs. Meanwhile, the foreigners continue to flood into here by the millions.
Here’s the issue I have with Cruz... ( who is MY CANDIDATE By the way, as He is for me, the BEST of the LOT in ALL issues taken in Toto ):
Cruz has never really said he opposes a path to legalization. He’s also never explicitly said he supports a path to legalization. What Cruz opposes, he and his spokespeople always say, is amnesty.
Next question — What is amnesty?
It’s not clear if that means “legalization” or “citizenship” to Cruz.
Nor is it clear what Cruz’s own proposal on immigration is.
His campaign won’t clarify whether he would support deportation of illegal immigrants after the border is secure, with a campaign source saying the situation can only be assessed after border security is in place.
I suspect his position is closer to those of Mark Levin, who I think supports Cruz, which is this ...
SECURE THE BORDERS FIRST.
Then and only then will we discuss what to do with the children of illegals who were born here.

Trump
He wouldn’t. See this article in Conservative Review https://www.conservativereview.com/commentary/2015/11/cruz-fought-amnesty-rubio-fought-conservatives.
Also listen to the last hour of the Steve Deace show from 11/12/2015.
Deport. Deport. Deport.
Was he lying then or is he lying now?...Either way, no surprise to me, he’s a liar.
Please remember. Most illegal immigrants do not care about citizenship. They care about staying here.
They mostly come in recent years radicalized by leftist, America haters. In Mexico the talk shows and Novellas tout the idea that America stole this country instead of the historical truth that we won it in a war Mexico started and also paid them 50 million dollars in gold. They do not love America. They break our laws in entering and if we want our country to survive as America we cannot retain such people.
Call me stupid, but that sounds exactly like an amendment that would bar illegals from ever receiving citizenship.
That's been my interpretation of Cruz's position on illegals already in the US since he became prominent nationally. He's often mentioned some legal status, but no path to citizenship, but the illegals are allowed to remain and work in the US.
Ted Cruz: 'I Am a Proponent of Immigration Reform'
Cruz has been adjusting his immigration stances significantly the past couple of weeks. The question is, can we believe him?
RE: Cruz has been adjusting his immigration stances significantly the past couple of weeks. The question is, can we believe him?
Since this is a complex issue, touching on those children who were born here in the US, which current US law considers citizen, the answer to your question is “Yes”, we can believe him.
Unless you want to deport the parents of these children and leave them in foster homes, this is not an easy question to answer.
His bill “ends the path to citizenship.” What’s the complaint then?

That’s OK by me, but here’s the next question — If they have children born here ( which current US law considers citizens ), should we allow them to stay legally?
