I just don’t get it!
I have always thought that sports teams were named after things closely related to native American tribes, customs and artifacts as a form of respect.
I guess I’m just an old fart who is too stupid to discern the horrific disrespect on display when someone names a sports team after something they see as powerful and honorable...like for instance “The Atlanta Braves” Who knew that they were actually trying to poke fun at native Americans?
Cowboys
Rangers
Mariners
Yankees
Texans
Mavericks
Royals
Padres
Vikings
Warriors
Kings
Of those the only one that is truly pejorative is Yankee yet noone asked to rename those teams
This is an attempt to destroy our culture.
As you said, who names a team to insult the entity whose name they honor?
Schools across this nation are named after presidents. Who knew they were insulting all of them?
Folks need to man up and tell these groups to go "expletive deleted" themselves.
After the events in Paris on 11/13, I will be adding
this to my posts for the next week. I'm certain our
turn is coming again soon. We stand united against
Islamic extremists.
Some music for reflection if the mood strikes you.

An honorable mention also goes out to Lassana Bathily , a Muslim immigrant from Mali.
Mr. Bathily sheltered customers at the Jewish Deli and helped police by providing info
on the terrorists, and providing the location of survivors in the deli.

I don’t get it either.
Maybe we’re supposed to forget the Indian Tribes from American history.
Teams that still have Indian names should consider a more modern name like “The Casinos”
The recognition of Indian tribes will fade into American History. Sports teams helped identify and preserve the names of regional Indian tribes in the states.
Illini, Blackhawk, Sioux, Cherokee....
