Is this Obamaphone Woman? Or a close relative? Seems like a similar level of smarts.

... oh, man... the fact that this could get printed — even in Salon — shows how far the intellectual rigor in this country has fallen. These college kids better toughen-up. There’s a World out there that’s going to chew them up & spit them out.

Shouldn’t there be a “whites only” safe space at colleges so that those who “identify as white” have a place to get away from the constant offensive haranguing, harassment and bullying by privileged racist students and faculty members “of color” who threaten and intimidate white students and make them feel bad about their melanin-deficient skin tone?

The ability to fight for a more racially just society is predicated on the ability to name and confront the continued presence of racial injustice through public speech acts that bring attention to these issues. To suggest that the call for a limit to racially harassing language is an attempt to curtail freedom of speech is to grant legitimacy to a deliberate mischaracterization of the issue. Black students exercise their freedom of speech every time they call attention to the racially hostile conditions they face. I exercise my freedom of speech, the linchpin of what universities call "academic freedom," every time I express unpopular racial opinions in the pages of this magazine. We all hold dear the freedom of expression.

The big lie - they don't want fair or equal treatment and they don't believe those who disagree with them should have a right to speak out.

You are correct - they have a right to feel offended all they want - but an earlier article had a statement from a teacher who stated that if folks wanted to be offensive, they needed to accept the consequences.

I wonder if the teacher understood what the consequences might be for her sort if the sane people were so willing to trample on others....

No, since this really isn’t at all about “safety” - it’s about not wanting to be held accountable (for grades or loans or their inability to find work), topped off with ever more appeasement (as a smokescreen) to excuse the failed university model, and gain more concessions.

I don't have easy answers to these questions. America does not have a one-size-fits-all definition of freedom.

What a pantload and a lie. It is clear that the author of this has both the answers AND a one-size-fits-all definition of freedom.

It is equally clear that definition is a one-way street. Some animals are just more equal than others and it is clear that the author and favored groups claim the right to decide the hierarchy, based on passed wrongs, either real or imagined, which the favored group suffered or even thinks they suffered.

You’re right. It’s not about safety. It’s about fighting leftist groupthink and political correctness.

It’s fighting fire with fire.

Obviously, there shouldn’t be “safe spaces” in colleges at all for anybody.

What we are seeing on campus these days is leftist tyranny and the creation of unquestioning subservience to minority privilege.

And yes, I said "passed wrongs" and not "past wrongs." There is no one alive today who was a slave and a relative few with even distant memories of Jim Crow laws.

The wrongs of the past are passed . . . as in fully digested and discharged from the lower end of the large intestine.

Trillions of dollars spent in the "war on poverty", interracial transfer payments and affirmative action have seen to that.

A lot of this comes from students being kept "safe" from conservative teachers, conservative speakers and conservative ideas.

It boils down to this, some ideas and societies ARE BETTER than others.

Exactly. That's why conservative students need to be fighting back with Alinsky-style tactics against leftist campus tyranny.

Using leftist arguments about "safety" to fight leftist tyranny is something I would be doing if I were in college these days.

How does one pass a course and/or graduate without taking final exams? Is this the Obama Method?

Of course, why do you think he's The Magic Negro?
