John Kasich's donor list has Ohio all over it (Names of Anti-Trump SuperPac donors)
Columbus Dispatch ^ | 7/31/15 | Jessica Wehrman & Jack Torry

The donor list for the major "super-PAC" supporting Ohio Gov. John Kasich's bid for president reads like a who's who of prominent Ohio political donors.

There are Wexners - Abigail S. Wexner, wife of Leslie Wexner, founder of The Limited, contributed $1 million to New Day for America.

There are the McConnells - John P. McConnell, the chief executive officer of Worthington Industries and majority owner of the Columbus Blue Jackets, contributed $500,000.

And there are the Wolfes - John Wolfe, former owner of The Dispatch, and his wife, Ann, contributed $250,000.

Other donors include the Castellinis - Robert H., the owner of the Cincinnati Reds, and his wife, Susan, each gave $50,000. And Richard Farmer, the chairman emeritus of the Cintas Corp., a uniform company, gave $350,000.

Members of the Lindner family, who are associated with the Cincinnati Reds, American Financial Group and United Dairy Farmers, also gave money to the super-PAC, which under federal law can collect unlimited donations from individuals. The late Carl Lindner's widow, Edyth, gave $50,000, and Carl H. Lindner, the current CEO of the American Financial Group and Edyth and Carl's son, gave $50,000.

How can someone donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Kasich presidential bid and not feel very, very stupid right now?

“How can someone donate hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Kasich presidential bid and not feel very, very stupid right now?”

So they can use Kasich for a mouth piece to attack Trump. They know that Kasich can’t win but that doesn’t matter.

John Kasich gets his support from Reds.

That seems just about right.

Some of this is likely rooted in the fact that Kasich is rumored to be a vindictive SOB and they are going to have to live with him as Governor for some time to come.

If you’re a good-sized business, the sitting governor of your state has a pretty good ability to shake you down.

That’s part of why Trump’s past donations should be understood. Sometimes it’s not just buying influence—it’s buying off the implicit or threatened negative consequences of not paying them off.

It’s why most firms of a reasonable size will be certain to have donors chipping in to both sides of the aisle. And, if it’s actually a one-party firm such as a law or accounting firm they may even designate a partner to give to the other side anyway.

But, beyond that, most local grandees out in the various states get wide-eyed with the idea that one of their own local pols may move up to the federal level as president—and try to get in early and heavy on it.

The current GOP-e strategy seems to be to throw as many liberals against Trump and Cruz as possible, even if the liberals they’re using are barely sentient (¡Yeb!, Carson, Kasich, and Jindal are especially stupid individuals).
