Ted Cruz won’t rule out legalization for illegal immigrants

"If we put in place a strong E-Verify system and deport criminal illegal aliens, the number of people here illegally will drop significantly, particularly if there's not a continual flow of people coming in illegally," Cruz said.

"At that point, once we've demonstrated that we can solve the problem, then we can have a conversation about what to do about whatever people remain illegally," Cruz added. When asked if that conversation included the potential for a pathway to legal status, he repeated, "We can have that conversation with the American people once we secure the border."

Well then this needs to be afforded to candidates like Trump as well by the Cruz supporters that would rake him if he had said this.

Would like to see the issue expanded beyond illegals. Almost all third world immigration is bad: legal, illegal or "refugee". We are importing failed cultures who bring garbage like gang banging and Islam as luggage.

Since the 1965 Immigration act 85% of legal immigration has been from the third world. When you add illegal immigration its up to 90+ percent. In 1950 this country was 90% white and 10% black plus include a few million Indians and Hispanics. Since America is a European founded nation we should only allow European immigration for the next 50 years. Seems fair to me. European would include whites who are being driven off farms in South Africa and whites in Africa in general who are being given a tough time by black kleptocracies such as South Africa and Zimbabwe. We would get lots of solid Euro immigrants from Greece, Eastern Europe, Poland (who are solid Christians) and other European nations. Dutch people like to immigrate here and start farms but are kept out due to 3rd worlders taking all the immigration slots

Oh- And build a wall!!! On the Mexican border PLUS serious computerized biometric visa controls at all legal ports of entry. No entry on that tourist visa you are going violate and stay here with, unless we get your biometrics

Ted is not calling for a wall now.

He says he will secure the border. So did John McCain. So did George Bush.

What they also said is that once the border was secured, they would talk about granting work visas and “legal status”.

That seems to be where Cruz is headed. It’s not something I support.

Horse puckey. I have heard Ted Cruz promote a border wall in person.

What doesn’t make sense is deporting them and expediting their reentry. That is just an expensive means of legalization.

If you get refuted, just keep on parroting... that is just a parade of nonsense masquerading as argument.

Spending billions of dollars to deport illegals ( which Congress will never fund anyway), then expediting their re entry to the country is just a very expensive and round about way of legalization. There is no difference in the legality of someone re entering the country by expedited means and someone being issued a green card. They are still both legal.

OMG, you are still beating on this totally dead and rotted corpse of a discredited horse.

Never discredited. Cruz supported the statements therein even a year after the Gang of Eight fight was long over. You and the nasty people attacking me on this issue are lying for Ted Cruz, even in threads where it is clear that Cruz is using double-speak on the issue of legalization. It's unfortunate that you cannot be honest enough to admit that Cruz did indeed, entirely and completely, not just lying before Congress somehow, but even a year later, totally supported bringing illegal aliens "out of the shadows."

You go Doughty!
Ted Cruz has an Achilles heel, and amnesty is it. The infernal, all-consuming desire of the Cheap Labor Express for blanket amnesty is the reason Trump dominates Cruz, Bush and others in polls.

Straight up.

By “blanket amnesty” I mean—the same, lame BS equivocation over securing the border. The Club for Growth types see securing the border as a “Slam, bam, we’re done—thank you Ma’am!” matter. OK, now let’s get biddy with amnesty ...

The sane among us, on the other hand, demand actually securing the border, if they say they will do it, while the tricksters know very well that if they do 1986 again, they are going to need millions more of docile, easily cowed Mexican slave laborers to take the places of the newly legal—who will do nothing to honor any agreement they made.

Why should they? They know it’s all BS too. 3 million in `59, 9 million 30 years ago in `86, 11-30 million today (10% of Mexico) ... how many in 2040? 50-60 million? a third of the Third World to the south of us, once again “hiding in the shadows” when they aren’t demanding citizenship, while remaining Mexican?

Anyone here arguing in favor of open borders vis a vis amnesty is a New World Order Soros troll.

Here's the thing. Congress will never appropriate the money to deport eleventy million illegals.

40 million. And Congress cannot stand in the way of POTUS enforcing the laws.

Tell them to get on home persuasively enough, and most will follow.

And if there are no jobs...and no benefits...most will leave.

In either case, though, some will stay. A million? Two million? More? How will we know...???

I read something back in the two to four week ago range, that made me believe he had walked away from a plan for a wall.

Just now I found references to him still planning one, so you’re right. I am sorry to have mis-stated that fact.

Then there is still the issue of him refusing to deport illegal immigrants.

If he doesn’t, he’ll just green card them and on that day they are legal residents.

Make them go home. What’s so difficult about that?

Don’t buy into the hype. Cruz is all for deportation and he has it prioritized. We can be thankful that we have two candidates that have great plans for solving our illegals situation.

Only Trump is independent of the influence of special interest and lobbyists.

Just this past August, here is the transcript of some words exchanged between Rand Paul (a broken clock is right twice a day) and Trump:

RAND PAUL: "You've donated to several Democratic candidates. You explained away those donations saying you did that to get business-related affairs. And you said recently, quote, 'when you give, they do whatever the hell you want them to do.'"

TRUMP: "You better believe it."

Trump practically boasts about using money to buy political favoritism. He doesn't deny it, he confirms it with his typically brass and moxxy.

It's bad enough in a businessman -- how many leftists do we have in office today thanks to "honest" businessmen just ponying up as "the cost of doing business"? THANK GOD the Founding Fathers and signers of the Declaration told the Crown to pound sand instead of supporting England because it was "the cost of doing business."

Trump has BEEN PART of "the influence of special interests and lobbyists" by his own admission and he's proud of it!

To hell with that! I'll stick with Cruz.
