North Carolina voluntary gun surrender event produces big results (LOL Alert)

A staple among the more "reasonable" gun control advocates in America is the voluntary gun turn-in or buy-back program. Hillary Clinton has recently gone on record as a big supporter of these programs, whether they be optional or… not so optional, like in Australia. If you had any doubt about the effectiveness of such plans, the folks in Greensboro, North Carolina were out to prove you wrong this month. They held just such an event where they would accept any number of weapons, getting them off the streets and presumably out of the hands of criminals.

So how did that turn out? If you read the coverage from this Time Warner Cable News Network report it was a smashing success. Almost 1,000 people turned out and it was a glorious day to get guns off the streets.

Almost 1000 people took "A Pledge of Non-Violence" Saturday at Destiny Christian Center in Greensboro.

This was to show their commitment to safety across the Gate City.

Gun owners also turned in unwanted firearms and ammunition at the event.

Signing the pledge and turning in weapons was spurred, in part, by an increase in gun violence across the city.

So that's a big win all the way around, right? Sure ... but the details of the "success" become a bit less impressive if you watch the video associated with the report.

As evidenced by the footage accompanying the story, the gun turn-in apparently resulted in a single BB pistol and a single sheathed hunting knife being "taken off the streets."

They aren’t publicizing the dates or locations of the ones in Chicago. The last time they did the ISRA turned in a bunch of crap guns and then bought new ones to outfit a shooting camp for kids.

At least that's one BB gun and one hunting knife that will be off the streets when Barry's newly-released, "unaccompanied" criminal felons are put back on the streets.

They had one of these in Maryland a few days ago. They claimed 300 weapons, but the photos show about 50 handguns and 5 long guns. I’d bet their “weapons” included “high-capacity” magazines and loose ammo.

I didn’t think so. At least in our neighborhood every single home has a gun (usually more).

One of our clients has a gun shop as a second business. He opens after church on Sunday, so pastors can stop by and shop. I think every preacher in that county is armed.

A few years ago here in Virginia, a group of gun rights guys went to a gun buyback and offered folks more than the police were offering and picked up a lot of weapons at under the bargain basement prices. We ought to do this all over whenever we hear of these programs.

Mohammad, a freshman studying computer science at UC Merced, was found to have a printout image of the Islamic State flag alongside a handwritten manifesto with detailed instructions to behead students and multiple reminders to praise Allah. Still, investigators have maintained there is no indication that he had any terrorist ties.

I was wondering how many of the people that showed up were hoping to get a few firearms cheap from those who might be silly enough to bring operable weapons to give away free.

I have a friend that was a fireman who was sitting in the fire house one day when a recently widowed wife of a WW II vet came in to the fire house an asked the fireman if they could dispose of her husband’s war souvenirs.

After they got off they went to the woman’s home and took possession of her husband’s foot locker which contained among other firearms a fully functional Thompson submachine gun.

My friend would never say what became of the contents of that foot locker. I will say that he was an avid fisherman who had more than his share of accidents with his boat.
