Actor James Woods Endorses Conservative Stalwart Ted Cruz for President
PJ Media ^ | 11-24-2015 | Michael van der Galien

The endorsements continue to roll in for Ted Cruz, who's also surging in the polls. Last week, two hundred faith leaders endorsed him for president. They were followed yesterday by actor and producer James Woods.

Woods -- who's best known for his roles in Once Upon a Time in America, Casino, and White House Down -- says he decided to support Cruz after a forty minute-long telephone conversation with the senator:

Woods went on to explain that Cruz could count on his support because he "has a strong posture in foreign policy and an unvarnished view of the domestic economic disaster that Obama has been." He added: "The recent tragedy in Paris affirmed that we cannot have a Commander-in-Chief who will sleep through a terrorist attack." Another reason Woods supports Cruz is his "steadfast devotion to conservative principles."

"Finally," Woods writes, "I found him to be truly down to earth. I believe he loves this country and like so many of us is appalled by the Obama debacle."

Earlier in the race, Woods endorsed Carly Fiorina, the former CEO of HP. He has now rescinded that endorsement (while saying he still greatly admires her) in favor of Cruz.

It's yet another sign that the Cruz campaign has taken off, and that most of the other candidates are now reduced to also-ran status.

Hey, I’m with you. I have few if any problems with Ted Cruz’s positions, he is obviously a God fearing American, reveres our Constitution, and I would vote for him in a heartbeat.

As you stated, I am also comfortable with Donald Trump, I may not agree with all of his views, but as they say “at the end of the day”, I know he will look out for our Nation’s best interests, he has stated clearly and repeatedly that he believes in, and would defend our Christian heritage, he certainly believes in ‘American Exceptionalism’, unlike the pack of ‘RATs and RINOs that have sold us out over the years.

With Trump OR Cruz, it would be no more ‘business as usual’ and I concur with you: we all should be able to agree on that.

I KNOW who I am. You unfortunately (like many other conservatives) are far too eager to throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to conservative litmus tests, which if ANY conservative candidate meets to the collective opinion of you 'Defenders', is going to most likely be UN-electable. See Barry Goldwater for a most prominent example. If you want more demonstrations of 'reality at work', you can look at the candidacy of Rick Santorum who certainly meets the criteria of being 'conservative', however his ability to get the nomination (let alone win the general) has proven to be illusive.

What you need to understand Norm, is that the majority of FReepers actually agree with your (and mine) conservative views, where you and I depart is your failure to understand that in the REAL world where the votes are cast and the nominees are chosen, an absolutely pure conservative candidate is going to have the odds stacked against them, and the odds of their prevailing are extremely slim.

Does any conservative like that? Of course not. But if we persist in these conservative purity competitions, I can assure you that we WILL end up with the most conservative candidate for President that anyone could hope for, and that candidate will (based on our own changing national demographics AND the suborned and subverted media) end up being the guy conceding to his opponent on election night.

Trump isn't a perfect conservative, and for that matter neither is Cruz. However they are conservative enough to be worthy of our support, and it is my view that Trump has a wider wing span (to employ an aviation analogy) capable of bringing in voters who would not ordinarily vote Republican, let alone for a true conservative.

If you were drowning in the ocean, and a rowboat full of people you would consider liberal heathens came upon you, and offered to save you, would you take the proffered hand of assistance, or sing 'Nearer My God To Thee' and go on and sink?

Speaking for myself, I have NEVER gone into a discussion about Ted Cruz and said one negative word about him. I supported Cruz before Trump even entered the race. Having said that, I DO support Trump as well, because the reality cannot be denied: Trump is leading the pack, his support transcends party lines, and if Cruz is enough of a gentleman not to be attacking and trashing Trump as many of Cruz's supporters do, they should straighten up and follow his example, simple as that.

My comment towards the beginning of this thread was noting that while James Woods is a fine actor who happens to be a conservative and is endorsing Ted Cruz, that other true conservatives (the example I used was Virgil Goode) have come out and endorsed Donald Trump. What that demonstrates is that BOTH candidates obviously have more than sufficient conservative blood within them, to warrant such endorsements from other conservatives, be they in the entertainment world, the political domain, or any other area.

I understand the frustration, it is disturbing to see someone with a grip on the Constitution and an understanding of the problems facing our Nation as Cruz does, remain in single digits (although he does seem to be surging in Iowa and that's good). Trump does not suffer from that problem of low poll numbers and low support.

As our Esteemed Founder has said, "it's Trump or Cruz, all the others are amnesty pimps" and if that's good enough for JimRob, it damn sure is good enough for me.

I agree that Ted Cruz if the best candidate, but the most energy is in the Trump camp, and a Trump/Cuz ticket would win in a landslide - for 16 years of conservatism in The White House.

And Trump would have huge coat tails. More GOP would be elected if it was Trump -vs- HilLIARy. Trump would win that race by 70/30

Cruz against HilLIARy is a 50-50 risk. He is a great conservative but does not have the energy Trump is bringing.

Thank you for staying on the straight and narrow.

I’m trying very hard not to judge actors or actresses on their political stands.

I’d rather not know as, sadly, it interferes with my enjoyment.

If any of them make a point to preach their views (liberal views) then it kind of sours the shows for me.

For example, CSI’s new spinoff with Patricia Arquette. I never was crazy about her but her spouting off at some award show ... okay I can’t watch that new show.

I don’t think James Woods has been in ‘liberal’ movies... not sure what you mean by that.

I think Cruz would dissect Hillary DNA strand by DNA strand.

My point though is that Cruz and Trump supporters need to stop fighting.

I’m a Cruz supporter but our country is in real danger. We simply cannot afford Hillary or dems for another 4 years. This last 4 years has almost done us in.

I will support Trump with every fibre of my being if I think he has the better chance of winning and right now it is looking that way.

White House Down in 2012 wasn’t that long ago.

The HBO series Ray Donavon is still on.

Family Guy, a series I do not like, which is still on.

I think he’s still getting work, and from his IMDB, fairly regularly.

And yet 3 years ago 'conservatives' threw their vote and their integrity away to vote for a hard leftist over [3rd party candidate Virgil Goode].

Norm, they didn't vote for anything of the kind! They voted against Obama!

If Romney had won and we were now into year four of Republican-led nationalized health care, environmentalist tyranny, forced accommodation of open homosexuality, and tax-funded abortion, they would all be here telling us that of course they didn't vote for that!! Are you crazy? They didn't vote for Romney -- they voted against Obama!!!

*ducking*

Well, at least James Woods is on the right side, as usual. Yet another actor (Adam Baldwin, “Full Metal Jacket,” “Firefly,” is another) whom I was drawn to from the very start, only to find out years later that they’re right-thinking actors. I always liked James Wood and it’s nice to see my radar is working good.

“I KNOW who I am. You unfortunately (like many other conservatives) are far too eager to throw the baby out with the bathwater when it comes to conservative litmus tests, “

And what litmus test other than “he’s not Obama” did you apply to Romney? Because he has no more conservatism on his record than Barry. And you lost.

And you helped drive the party left.

For all your text, you still have nothing but straw men and excuses. We know what you are too. At best, a moderate. And that’s giving you way more credit then what your posts indicate you are. Which is an excuse making liberal apologist.

There’s always some reason you come up with to avoid voting for conservatives, only to lose or end up sending Barry Republicans that work WITH him. So what did your ‘winning’ philosophy do other than harm America? Nothing. All your lesser evils have done is harm America.
