Embellishes. Trump is one of the great ones though I am prone to it myself admittedly.
It’s a crafting term, adding detail to a fabric to make it prettier or more interesting.
Trump does that when speaking to crowds, when he’d be just as persuasive if he’d stick to the basic facts of a story. The difference, of course, is that embroidery thread is solidly attached to the underlying fabric. Trump’s embroidery doesn’t hold up well under scrutiny. That is a problem for a candidate who needs to be taken seriously.
He’s somewhat like the little boy who cried “wolf.” You never know when he’s telling the simple truth or whether he’s spinning.
