RUSH: Folks, I want to pose a question to you. I mean, I've got my own answer to this, but I would be really curious to know what you really think. No cliched responses, please. Why do the mainstream media and the Washington...? Well, it's all the same. Why does official Washington so hate Trump? What is it that they so fear? What is it do you think that explains it? This is irrational. You can have any number of candidates come along over the years that they disagree with and don't like, like a Pat Buchanan or a Ron Paul, I mean, name 'em, and they never, ever lose their heads like this. But they're literally going nuts.
They're being turned upside down and inside out. And there has to be some reason for it. There is an explanation for it and I just wonder what you all think it is. While you ponder that -- (interruption) Well, no, I'm not gonna answer it right away because when I say something there's usually nothing more to be said so I'm gonna hold back on this one.

RUSH: Here's Scotty, Red Bluffs, California, as we head back to the phones. Welcome, sir. Great to have you here. Hello.
CALLER: Great to talk to you, Rush. I'll get right to my point.
RUSH: Yeah.
CALLER: These latest attack ads from the Kasich super PAC as well as any others are a perfect illustration of just how out of touch the GOP is with their base. Every time Trump gets a bump from any of these attacks, they're not recognizing exactly who we are. People who resonate with Trump will never be voting for Kasich or Jeb Bush, and the fact that they still don't recognize that scares the living hell out of me.
RUSH: It does, but they have to be smart enough to know this. My point is these are really not dumb people. I mean, they may be wrong in a lot of things, and they may be insensitive or unaware, but they're not dumb. They have to know that they are alienating these people. It's fascinating. You go back to the first days of the Jeb Bush campaign, what did he say? He was very clear, proudly said he was going to win the nomination without the base. So from the early days, the Bush campaign was fearless in pretty much characterizing the base as a bunch of, I don't know, kooks or what have you, but clearly he didn't want to win with them. The badge of honor was gonna be to win despite them and without them.
There's a genuine adversarial relationship. It isn't new, folks. But it keeps intensifying. I mean, the adversarial relationship was plain as day back in the seventies when Reagan was attempting to become the Republican nominee. And establishment Republicans of that day had similar animus to Reagan, and they did their best to discredit Reagan with his supporters. Back in the day they joined a bunch of Democrats in the media trying to portray Reagan as dangerous with his finger poised on the nuclear weapons button, the launch button. And I think it's becoming more and more irrational.
What's fascinating about this is, compared to Reagan, Trump is not a conservative, and the bulk of Trump's support is not the Republican base. As we mentioned yesterday, if you look at the demographics, at least as expressed by polling data, the bulk of Trump's support is what we all have been led to believe the Republican Party wants. Blue-collar people, moderates, and independents. I mean, there's the fact that they don't control Trump and the real thing is, they don't have any money invested. And as such, they have no say so over what he does at all.

BTTT!!
Bingo, Maggie! You get top prize!!
“Because he isnât one of them”.....
And worse, they can’t buy him off. He is beholding to NO ONE and that is what makes Trump the best candidate thus far. You can’t buy him.
Uniparty Loses Control.
Trump or Cruz.
I’ll take either.
I don’t think the GOPe can knock out either Trump or Cruz. They are each independent forces with their own base, money, ideas, and momentum.
I want to see those two guys go on, and may the best man win.
And STICK IT TO THE UNIPARTY!!
Anything, anyone that can break the back of the uniparty is getting my vote. I don’t care what party they represent, what their politics are at this point. The corruption of the American federation is being torn down during our lifetimes and the only way to stop it is someone like Trump with the balls and bucks to break it down and end the madness.
I think they fear another Reagan-like success story.
Amen.
I prefer Cruz. But I’ll take Trump.
There’s a very simple explanation. Washington has its own distinct culture and it is almost exclusively a culture of insiders, regardless of political affiliation or ideology. Insiders of both parties run the show and can be reasonably described as liberals or perhaps moderate liberals. This culture includes pols and reporters, obviously, but also high-ranking department officials, senior congressional aides, judges and various other well-placed people. All of them follow the same rules and power is far, far, FAR more important than actually doing anything for the people who voted them in. “House of Cards,” aside from its more dramatic flourishes, is a remarkably accurate portrayal of how DC works.
Little terrifies official Washington more than an outsider who won’t play by the rules. It’s not just the mainstream press and the “GOP Elite,” however one defines that, who’s afraid of/put off by Trump. It’s essentially the entire DC culture who find his ideas and his personality most unwelcome.
I personally neither celebrate nor decry the DC culture. I accept it as a fact of life that will never genuinely change and most certainly never welcome outsiders. I think it’s a giant, tremendous mistake to think that Trump’s presence will change anything should he win election. They will chew him up and spit him out.
+1
That would be a 25 point lead over the “surging” Cruz.
Anyone have the latest Reuters or Morning Consult? These three seem to really track together.
I don’t want you to think I’m bashing Cruz, but remember he’s a ‘politician’ and Trump isn’t yet...
Cruz has super pacs and lobbyists he has to answer to, handlers if you will...Trump doesn’t...
Trump answers to the American people, if you like him you like him, if you don’t you don’t there is no ‘kinda’ with Trump...
No body can knock Trump out, only Trump can knock out Trump, but Cruz can be taken, he isn’t on his own...that makes the difference...
What will Trump do for Cruz? I don’t know, only Trump has that answer, we surely don’t...
We need a little time to see how things play out. Cruz out of nowhere popped up just like Bush,Fiorina,Carson popped out out of nowhere.
I like Cruz so I hope he is not just a flash in the pan. I like Cruz and I prefer Trump.
Trump doesn’t nee their money, so he won’t be exchanging favors and power. They want power.
That said, I do not TRUST Mister Trump.
At all.
.
I contributed to a Cruz Super Pac. So he’s responsible to me. :-)
Well good for you...I hope he comes thru with all your dreams you have of him....
Trump isn’t owned by anyone...maybe a 70 year old woman who sent in a thank you card $5.00...seems if I were a candidate those are the type of people I would want backing me instead of lobbyists and super pacs....but to each his own....
They hate Trump, probably because he’ll take care of his friends and not their K Street gang. They fear Cruz because he’ll set the DOJ on K Street and cut the agencies that deliver the goods to them.
