ESPN is not included in any basic cable package. You have pay at least for second tier, which means you are also forced to buy CNN, MSNBC, MTV and Weather Channel. In other words, the Pravda tier.

It's really just a matter of simple business realities at work. In order to pay for the exorbitant contracts ESPN has signed to televise various sporting events, they are raising the rates they charge cable companies to carry the channel ... which means they are driving away customers who don't want to pay extra $ for what ESPN offers. It looks like they've made a bet that the extra revenue from the higher rates will more than offset the losses from customers who drop them.

It looks like they've lost that bet.

ESPN is not available on my bare bones package. All I get are local channels and a few others. No sports, no CNN, FOX or any other talking heads stations. I'm a happier person without that junk.

How’s that H-1B treason working out for you?

...but you answer your own question.

It keeps the liberal propaganda going, that is exactly why. Dark forces at work.

I still don’t get the fact that Disney is a leader in this crazy crazy thinking. My ex-sister-in-law (a lesbian) worked for Disney years ago and was bitterly angry about the not completely unspoken position that Disney had against gays and lesbians. She felt she could be promoted no further as scrutiny about her lifestyle would be a huge stop sign for the rest of the Disney administration.

Disney was one of the leaders of the American way, apple pie, importance of family, proudly USA .......It has now remade itself into the one of the most despicable US companies. The 180 degree turn is almost complete.

The bundling mess is protected by congress...

A la carte program offering requires a change in law of sufficient clarity to keep the FCC from retaining it by regulation.

If they charge a unknown amount for usage I will drop my cable internet. I will not do a open ended bill amount. It will be a fixed amount every month or none.

Look what happened to the cell phone guys when there was a alternative to a usage bill. They are getting there butt handed to them by track phones with unlimited data text and talk. Some one will do the same to the cable companies if they do this. Sure they may do well for a year or two till some one else come into the market.

I have been cable tv free since 2007.

I've been cable tv free since 1962.

I do have cable internet, but that's it!

Screw Disney for me. They screwed my Daughter that used to work there and for no reason except they wanted her to train her replacement. It is a real liberal cess pool.

I thought Juan McCain was going to straighten out cable TV decades ago.

Anyone else remember that?

Quick, draft a transgendered football player. That will fix it.

You can cut the cord and still get ESPN through Sling TV, a Dish network subsidiary that offers a streaming feed of 20 core cable channels for $20/mo. You get ESPN and ESPN2 as well as CNN, TBS, TNT and Disney among the channels. More sports can be added with an additional $5 month package.

Over the air channels can be pulled in by local antenna.

Yes, you’re still feeding the beast but you’re putting them on a diet.

As for the data caps, alternative fiber networks (such as Google Fiber) are being built so they could cap where there’s no competition but they would be shooting themselves in the foot if they do it where unlimited competition exists.

He most recently introduced legislation to that effect in 2013.

One of the items on which the good senator and I seem to agree. Whoda thunk it?

I’m in the same boat you are.

I would go back to cable in a heart beat. There are about 5 channels or so that I’d want. TCM being the top of the list.

Many channels simply will go out of existence. I bet public TV would slide down the tubes.

ESPN has allowed politics and political correctness in the broadcast booth. They deserve to lose subscribers. I despise ESPN.

Professional sports are a childish distraction. How a feminized childish distraction supposedly programmed for men ever made money other than the fact we were all forced to pay for that stupidity is beyond me. In a sane world there never would have been an ESPN.

Call your friend over and toss around a football. Pick up a rifle and take a walk in the woods. Build a cabinet. Practice your wild crafting. Go to the town meeting or Freep. There are far too many enjoyable past times that make for a better person and country.

Good riddance ESPN, Im proud to say that I never voluntarily watched.
