Western forces pile up on Turkey-Syria border

Letters of intention from France and Germany to use Turkey’s strategic İncirlik air base in their operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) - or “Daesh” in the Arabic shorthand that governments prefer to use - reportedly reached Ankara this week.

The İncirlik base is only 150 km from where a Turkish F-16 shot down a Russian Su-24 jet on Nov. 24 after it crossed into Turkey’s air space on the border with Syria. It is also just 170 km from the Khmeimim air base in Syria near Latakia, where Russian air forces are stationed. It is 225 km from the Russian naval base at Tartus in Syria, which is Russia’s only military base in the entire Middle East and Mediterranean Sea.

Ä°ncirlik was opened up for the use of U.S.-led anti-ISIL coalition flights after Turkey fully joined the coalition in July 2015. In addition to Turkish F-16s and flying tankers, there are American F-15s, F-16s and A-10 bombers currently based there.

An American convert to Islam who became the center of a national firestorm two years ago when he claimed he was unfairly placed on a Department of Homeland Security no-fly list has reportedly been arrested in Turkey on suspicion of being part of an ISIS cell.

Erdogan lost, claimed the election was flawed, held another and somehow won the second time. The people of Turkey are no more to blame for Erdogan than ours are for Obama. In other words, we are all collectively guilty but there was nothing we could have done otherwise as the game was rigged.

i dont know about the first election in which ergoden won.

But as for here, I live in NYC and there are ALOT of people who like this guy. some LOVE him.

we weren’t cheated. Maybe by a few hundred thousand votes POSSIBLY.

not four million.

The media is guilty as is hollywood in pumping out liberal garbage.

But it IS the people’s fault.

I FULLY believe over 50 million people in this country liked him enough to vote for him.

Shame on them.

There probably isn’t a lot of political sophistication on the part of individual ISIS fighters. It must be confusing to fight for conquest of the world and to be supported by Turkey or the United States who only support your conquest of the part of the world controlled by Assad...and then, only until you have beaten the man. Someone needs to explain to them a puppet is a sock with a fist up its *ss.

Yeah, real peach of a guy.

Robert Malley was born in 1963 to Barbara (née Silverstein) Malley, a New Yorker who worked for the United Nations delegation of the Algerian National Liberation Front (FNL), and her husband, Simon Malley (1923–2006), an Egyptian-born Jewish journalist who grew up in Egypt and worked as a foreign correspondent for Al Gomhuria, a newspaper linked closely to Gamal Abdul Nasser's government. The elder Malley spent time in New York, writing about international affairs, particularly about nationalist, anti-imperial movements in Africa, and made a key contribution by putting the FNL on the world map.[4]

In 1969, the elder Malley moved his family—including son Robert—to France, where he founded the magazine Africasia (later known as Afrique Asia), which gave voice to the causes of the newly independent states such as Algeria and Egypt, and to liberation struggles throughout the world. The Malleys were vehemently anti-Israel and counted Yasser Arafat as a personal friend.

-- snip --

According to Barack Obama's 2008 presidential campaign, Malley provided informal advice to the campaign in the past without having any formal role in the campaign.[8] On May 9, 2008, the campaign severed ties with Malley when the British Times reported that Malley had been in discussions with the militant Palestinian group Hamas, listed by the U.S. State Department as a terrorist organization.
