CAIR calls Trump, Carson bigots, Islamophobes

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) condemned the deadly mass shooting in San Bernardino, California and condemned U.S. Presidential candidates, they accused of Islamophobia.

Speaking at a news conference in Jersey City, New Jersey on Thursday (December 3), Nihad Awad, the executive director of CAIR said, "We are heartbroken and horrified by the vicious attack in San Bernardino and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families."

"Donald Trump and his reckless statements is putting the lives of millions of Americans and their families in danger. And these are not just words. Trump and Carson's mainstreaming of Islamophobia in the election is inciting real discrimination, real hate crimes and violence against Muslims and their mosques. Since the Paris attacks, CAIR has documented numerous violent attacks against mosques and American Muslims, including shootings, vandalism and bomb threats to name a few. Trump is not only a bigot, but a liar, a dangerous one at that. We cannot entrust our nation's safety and security to someone who lies, who insists on lying when corrected by national media."

Muslim scholars teach that Muslims should generally be truthful to each other, unless the purpose of lying is to "smooth over differences."

There are two forms of lying to non-believers that are permitted under certain circumstances, taqiyya and kitman. These circumstances are typically those that advance the cause of Islam - in some cases by gaining the trust of non-believers in order to draw out their vulnerability and defeat them.
