What started with a U.S. congressman denouncing suggestions from the University of Tennessee to guarantee holiday parties are "not a Christmas party in disguise" snowballed to a call for Chancellor Jimmy Cheekâs resignation.
U.S. Rep. John J. Duncan, who appeared on Fox News on Thursday, told the News Sentinel that the post with the heading "Best Practices for Inclusive Holiday Celebrations in the Workplace" on UT's Office for Diversity and Inclusion's website is "extremist," "ridiculously overboard" and an example of political correctness run amok.
Throughout the day, additional lawmakers expressed support for Duncan, and university officials issued several statements, each side responding that the other was "ridiculous."
The outrage comes just as a semester of tension and controversy between UT and lawmakers ends.
Early in the semester, lawmakers expressed displeasure about a suggestion to use gender-neutral pronouns if preferred by a student. That post, also on the Office for Diversity's website, was pulled by UT and led to UT President Joe DiPietro and Cheek saying Cheek would approve campuswide practices or policies before publication. The controversy also led to legislators questioning what they called excessive diversity spending on campus.

Hey, UT! Merry Christmas!
Is there a suggestion to wear Kevlar and employ radiowave jammers?
So why have a holiday for anything? WTF is wrong with non-Christians celebrating a traditional US holiday? Answer” the Effing mooslims are “offended” about everyrhing. They are here in this country to “be offended by everything,” and to demand they we cater to their “religion” to the exclusion of everything else. Unfortunately, we have these “diversity and inclusion” boobs who buy into it all!
Our HR dept banned trees and the colors red and green.
Obviously they banned trees because it was shoving Druidism down our throats.
Whew, for a second I thought it was the real UT.
Don’t be that way. T for Texas AND T for Tennessee.
The far left in TN are in Memphis, Nashville, Chattanooga and Univ of Tenn in Knoxville.
Damned straight!
Andy Holt is likely rolling over in his grave as is Neyland. This is the same diversity idiots that have a sex week so all fringe groups can recruit. UT unfortunately is turning into a Liberal sewer. I do applaud Jimmy Duncan for standing up to UT’s so called enlightened management. You can also bet the Knox News Liberal will be running some diversity editorials helping to defend the liberal cause.
