10-12 years ago, an attack on a military base was stopped before it occurred. I learned after the fact that I was at the base the day that the attack was supposed to happen.

This* was a backlash. Heck, the systematic persecution, robbery, massacre and even enslavement of Christians in Iraq - now that's a backlash (presumably against the US invasion of Iraq or just on general Islamic principle, after decades of Saddam holding them back).

Just one comment to the woman quoted in the article:
If you don’t like it, then you should have opposed radical islam when you had the chance. You made your bed, by your silence you emboldened the terrorists and surrendered your religion and your heritage to them. It’s only rational for the rest of us to suspect every muslim now, until and unless muslims themselves purge the terrorists from their midst.
