I think the word here might be to “coax” cooperation.

Respectfully, I disagree.

I believe our modern political class, like our modern police, have become largely sociopaths to succeed in their chosen career. They simply do not possess the same moral structure and motivations as the vast majority of their countrymen. As such, the only thing they will allow to stand in the way of their own goals is a convincing threat of real harm to their power and/or position.

The question would remain as to whether Trump envisions himself as part of this class.

I think the sociopath aspect is born largely of demoralization.

Maybe Trump’s cup of victory is part of an antidote. If Trump chooses to pursue a path that rewards “good constitutional behavior.”

And this in turn is going to depend on the “We The People” that Trump has, to make a pun, pointed his ear trumpet towards.

A boatload of optimism is going to be needed to make this go, and it looks like Trump has it. Can he share it. The acid test is coming.
