Are you saying there were three members of a drug cartel in Paris? If they took them out it’s because they weren’t being shot at yet.
If I’m in a place with a lot of people and two guys start shooting others I’d try to take them out. And hopefully they wouldn’t start shooting at those who are carrying.
The return shots were probably simultaneous with or prior to the attacking shots. The guys with rifles would have triggered reactions from the drug executives on sight, perhaps before they Æ¡pened fire. Just being spotted jumping out of a car with rifles would have had those guns out of shoulder holsters. And those guys practice a lot. Back home in Cartel-land practice keeps one alive. They did get arrested when the gendarmes arrived.
