Cruz is a serious contender. Trump is a serious contender. Carson isn’t.
But he’s still a strongly representative name. Carson is something like everyone’s third choice: no way he’s going to win, but still influential and indicative of what voters want. (Unlike Jeb & Christie, whom nearly everyone truly doesn’t care about.)
