People are calling Sam's Club CEO 'racist' after she gave an interview about diversity
Business Insider ^ | 14 Dec 2015 | Hayley Peterson

Sam's Club CEO Rosalind Brewer is being accused of discriminating against white men following a CNN interview where she discussed the importance of workforce diversity.

Brewer was asked by the interviewer how she promotes diversity within her company.

"It has to start with top leadership," Brewer said. "My executive team is very diverse and I make that a priority. I demand it within my team."

She said she mentors women inside and outside of her company, as well, and also encourages Sam's Club's partners to hire a more diverse workforce.

Now here's the comment that ignited the uproar. Brewer said:

"Just today we met with a supplier and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males. That was interesting. I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier's] folks in the room because there were actually no female, like, levels down. So I'm going to place a call to him."

Critics are claiming that Brewer's remarks are evidence that she advocates against employing and hiring white men — even though four of the eight people on her executive team are white men. Some customers are now accusing Brewer of being "racist" toward white men and are threatening to boycott Sam's Club.

The interview has since been shared widely by right-wing sites, including RedState, BizPac Review, and TeaParty.org, prompting some customers to criticize the company online.

"As a white male I'm deeply offended by the remarks of your employee," one person wrote on Sam's Club's Facebook page. "We will not be patronizing Sam's Club until this is corrected."

What a bitch.

I’m glad that it’s not a crime to discriminate against me. :)

This diversity perversity is nonsense.

How about just having an open mind about who you’re going to consider as a candidate. And let merit do its thing.

Walmart already is gives $ to glbt groups...I guess white straight males, even tho they represent a certain percentaged portion of society, don’t contribute anything to the so-called “code” word, “diversity.” (Some people, by virtue of their ethnicity or gender, are I guess simply “more diverse” than others)

This was not about diversity. You send the best sales reps to the biggest accounts regardless of sex or race. It’s about ability, who can do the best job. You don’t send in second string.

I’m not white, but I still support these men. It’s about time white males began speaking up in this straight forward, logical manner. Use this method, not the Black Lives’ Matter hoodlum method, because the white group most likely could not get away with acting up and acting out in such a childish, destructive way as BLM.

Now her name and face will become synonymous with a pinheaded MSNBC Type of racist.
I predict that Sam’s Club will walk this back once they realize it’s not cool any more to treat white men like scapegoats w/o expecting some negative feedback.
The CEO may never quite get why this was inappropriate,
as she remains stuck on her intellectual ghetto view of life.

My Sam’s card is up for renewal this month. I am glad I read this first because I won’t be renewing.

Besides, there’s a new Costco in town I want to check out.

I’ve been a Sam’s member primarily, but despite the Costco boss being a radical progressive, I am not sure Sam’s or Walmart are a heck of a lot better at this point.

Hubby told ne he renewed our Sam’s Club membership today.

I was annoyed but, he told me that Sam’s Club is the only place he can buy dried chicken strips made in the USA for our dogs.

if i said that i went into a meeting and saw nothing but black men on the other side of the table... and decided to not proceed because of that fact...

then i would be acting on racist attitudes.

so yes.. she is a black racist (she’s also sexist, but that’s another topic)

btw... it could be a different hatred. one based in political ideology. she may have seen the group of ‘white men’ as ‘republicans’, as that’s the impression the left is trying to push

Most of my shopping is done at Publix or Winn Dixie. I cannot stand Walmart, Sam’s and other Walmart owned stores.

I’ve never been into a Costco. There is a new one in my town and I thought about checking it out. Not sure I will.

I don’t recall any white people working in our local SAMs Club the last few times I was there. There might have been some. All the checkers were black females. Maybe some of the folks who give out samples were white, but they do not work directly for SAMs Club. They are contractors. I have been there three times in the past year. Yuck.

There is a new Costco here. It is expensive. It is cleaner.

We did that for many years, and won’t face the fact that too many people from “protected groups” just can’t cut it. Instead of addressing those deficiencies (starting with education), the government and large companies have simply lowered the bar (a policy admitting de facto racial and gender inferiority). As a supervisor, I don’t have the time or interest in compensating for the shortcomings of token staff members; if I’m the only one who can type a coherent letter or email they’ll pay me accordingly. Also, I no longer work longer hours than those “playing office”; years ago the white guys realized they were the only ones working unpaid overtime as “salaried employees” and stopped doing so. Because of tokens in high positions working the bare minimum (or pretending to), there is nothing the employer can do about this without paying out some serious legal claims; it is far too easy to document and win in court.
