Professors Blast SCOTUS: ‘F*** You, Scalia’
Daily Caller ^ | 12/15/15 | Peter Hasson

Posted on 12/15/2015 4:38:48 AM PST by markomalley

Several college professors unleashed vulgarities at conservative Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Clarence Thomas after they were offended by some of Scalia’s comments during oral arguments in the case of Fisher v. University of Texas at Austin, which has to do with the constitutionality of affirmative action policies in college admissions.

The professors took umbrage with one of Scalia’s comments, in which the jurist asked the counsel for UT to respond to an argument made by opponents of affirmative action, pointing out that “there are those who contend that it does not benefit African Americans to–to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having them go to a less advanced school, a less a slower track school where they do well. One of – one of the briefs pointed out that that most of the — most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas.”

Apparently believing Scalia’s comments to be offensive, several college professors took to Twitter to show their contempt for both Justice Scalia and Justice Thomas.

Ben Carrington, an assistant professor of Sociology at the University of Texas, called Justice Thomas a “dumb f***” for something he imagined Thomas doing.

I can imagine Clarence Thomas nodding as Scalia says blacks should stick to "slower track schools". He's talking about you, you dumb f***.

— Ben Carrington (@BenHCarrington) December 9, 2015

Jesse Goldberg, an assistant professor of Neurobiology and Behavior at Cornell University, simply tweeted “f*** you, Scalia.”

f*** you, Scalia. https://t.co/UqrrvWJK10

— Jesse Goldberg (@KempoJesse) December 9, 2015

Alexander Ibe, a professor of Life Sciences at Weatherford College, called Scalia an “Ass Hole Racist.”

#SCOTUS Scalia is just an Ass Hole Racist

— Dr. Alex Ibe (@DrAlexIbe) December 11, 2015

Angus Johnston, a professor at the City University of New York’s Hostos Community College, claimed Scalia was “reveling in being an asshole.”

Scalia reveling in being an asshole. He's getting worse, right? Feels like he's getting worse.

— Angus Johnston (@studentactivism) December 9, 2015

Despite his own vulgarity, Johnston has been an ardent defender of “trigger warnings” for college students.

“Then Obama sends them all 72 virgins, a bottle of Scotch, and a Merry Christmas card.”

You sound like Reagan.

One time back when Governor Jerry Brown had a med-fly problem and reluctant to use pesticides.

Reagan said something along the lines ...

“Brown is breeding med-flies in his attic.”

I would love to hear the Gipper moderate a debate between Trump and Cruz. It would be rich!

I wonder if these professors understand that they are channeling Trump (who apparently also likes disparaging Scalia)?

So here are Scalia's comments in full:

SCALIA: There are — there are those who contend that it does not benefit African-Americans to — to get them into the University of Texas where they do not do well, as opposed to having slower-track school where they do well. One of — one of the briefs pointed out that — that most of the — most of the black scientists in this country don’t come from schools like the University of Texas.

GARRE: So this Court —

SCALIA: They come from lesser schools where they do not feel that they’re – that they’re being pushed ahead in — in classes that are too — too fast for them.

GARRE: This Court —

SCALIA: I’m just not impressed by the fact that — that the University of Texas may have fewer. Maybe it ought to have fewer. And maybe some — you know, when you take more, the number of blacks, really competent blacks admitted to lesser schools, turns out to be less. And — and I — I don’t think it — it — it stands to reason that it’s a good thing for the University of Texas to admit as many blacks as possible. I just don’t think —

Well, I personally, if I were Trump, leading all Republicans with the black vote (which is part of his appeal-- that he can win the general with a broad base of support), would avoid as much as possible something as insignificant as a Scalia controversy over affirmative action--which, without question, he is correct on. Blacks do do better at slower paced schools than whites. But saying that out loud, or even sounding like you said it out loud, is obviously problematic, even if all the studies support it. I've long noted that Trump has generally been silent on affirmative action in general, and I suspect the reason behind that is entirely strategic.

At some point, conservatives should learn to pick their battles. The black vote may break heavily for Republicans this year because of Donald Trump. I've seen a lot of anecdotal evidence of this, with even a personal black friend of mine stating that she supports Trump 100%, but tells no one about it. She voted for Obama last go around, is generally liberal on things like taxes, but then I've heard her complain about blacks on the welfare line with nice cars. Blacks like her have no set ideology, but supports Trump on illegals, Muslims, etc.

It would be pretty stupid at this point to open up another front on the grounds of affirmative action and whether or not african americans have an aptitude for top class schools. Trump would instantly alienate them and the only thing he would get in return is more support from the people who already support him. If Trump did open up a new front in the battle, I'd support him, but I'd also expect his numbers among blacks to plummet.

C. Edmund Wright and company would be happy that Trump immediately join himself into this fight. After all, they themselves are supporting a candidate who has zero chance of winning the black vote. Misery loves company.

What does he mean by peo-life? Constitutional amendment? Defining in law that life begins at conception? Take away jurisdiction over the issue from t h e courts? It’s easy to say. “I’m pro-life,” but it’s the details that matter. There were people who voted for OBAMA ARE who claimed t o be pro-life. There are people who vote for PLANNED PARENTHOOD who claim room be pro-life. But trump doesn’t tolerate much scrutiny. He starts whining like a baby, and then people back off.

“What does he mean by pro-life?”

The info is out there about Trump’s position, but he probably doesn’t want to red flag it. He would rather win on more broad anti-establishment issues.

This misstep was that much worse in light of his campaign. He should be more wary of interviews.

Your ‘in-depth’ is impressive. Thank you.

‘I’ve long noted that Trump has generally been silent on affirmative action in general, and I suspect the reason behind that is entirely strategic. At some point, conservatives should learn to pick their battles.’

Right. Affirmative action is a calcified trench-warfare issue that divides people. Banning muslim immigrants is a unifying exciting issue that leaves other candidates [except perhaps Cruz] flat-footed. ‘Hit’em where they ‘aint’.

So now Rush and Mark Levin are frustrated with Trump over this Scalia mess, all because Trump stepped into a hostile interview and got blindsided. [evidentally — I don’t know all the specifics about the interview].

Hope he learns from this, and hope he can mend bridges.

Princeton is private, though. I had it mixed up with Rutgers, which is the State University of New Jersey.

Ben Carrington takes home the prize for attacking Justice Thomas for something he imagined Thomas saying. Just the kind of guy we want molding young minds.

Plus 98% of law schools, and you would have my vote! ;)

I believe Trump said he disagreed with Scalia. That’s not disparaging. Apparently Trump is not alone in disagreeing with Scalia on this one. It happens. Nobody agrees 100% with anybody else.

Lol, my ohh my, in this thread for me I was told I have influence , or the Clintons influence of me, to I sound like Reagan.

No folks, I am a poor man with no influence, certainly not over the Clintons, or they don’t influence me, and I am not Ronald Reagan.

But I would not doubt Obama sent the top leaders of ISIS a Christmas card, a bottle of scotch, and 72 ugly virgins, Bill Clinton kept the really good looking 72 virgins, hey Obama had to make some kind of compromise between ISIS and Bill Clinton.

No need to be humble with me, Mister President. I know you are Ronald Reagan.

[Looking up at you in admiration.]

What I sctually meant is that you demonstrated Reaganesque humor.
