Who will save America from Ted Cruz?
The Week ^ | December 16, 2015 | Damon Linker

I love a good horse race story as much as the next political junkie. And with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz taking the lead in Iowa and putting in a solid performance in Tuesday night's big GOP presidential debate, we're bound to see plenty more horse race stories focused on what might end up being, at least in Iowa, a photo finish between Cruz and Donald Trump.

Smart liberal pundits like Jonathan Chait and Matthew Yglesias have already begun to game it out. Cruz has positioned himself as The Man Who Could Slay Trump. He's just conservative enough to become a grassroots (and especially evangelical Christian) favorite while also pilfering a decent chunk of Trump's voters. And he's just (barely) enough of a Washington establishment insider not to inspire an outright revolt by party bigwigs. Plus, he's rolling in money, with both his own campaign war chest and various super PACs, which are funded by a handful of rich right-wing donors, overflowing with cash....

Which Demorat candidate is the author hoping for? Karl Marx? I suppose Bernie Sanders will have to do.

Once thing he said that got my attention: he said Cruz wanted a 10% flat tax AND a 16% VAT. Is there any truth about the VAT?

On domestic policy, Cruz is an unapologetic bomb-thrower, promising a series of changes that, if enacted, would make his presidency the most eventful since the New Deal of the 1930s, though in the diametrically opposite ideological direction.
The more I read, the better it gets.

Cry baby, cry!

Rush is saying this right now. The GOPe are pushing all of their firepower at Ted Cruz today. The will try to label him as backing amnesty. Thank God he finally managed to say no legalization last night. He needs to just say he’s planning on self deportation through enforcement of the current law. But he can’t quit get there. He just says he will enforce the current laws. He needs to take the last step for those who cannot read between the lines.

Cruz appeared to model himself on no one so much as Frank Underwood, the fictional pol from House of Cards whose every action and policy proposal is a function of the ruthless drive for power.

Underwood of course was modelled on the real world character of Hillary Clinton.

Cruz wanted a 10% flat tax AND a 16% VAT. Is there any truth about the VAT?

Formally, it is a 16% tax on business, but since it is passed on to consumers, it amounts to a VAT.

From his web site:

BUSINESS FLAT TAX ; SINGLE RATE: 16%

The corporate income tax along with the payroll tax are abolished, replaced by a 16% Business Flat Tax.

The current corporate tax code is riddled with years of accumulated loopholes and special favors, burdening U.S. businesses with the highest top tax rate among the advanced nations. This convoluted and anti-competitive structure will be replaced with a simple 16% tax on net business sales (gross sales minus expenses and capital expenditures).

The current payroll tax discourages work and job creation. The vast majority of Americans pay more in payroll tax than in income tax. The Simple Flat Tax will eliminate the payroll tax, boosting jobs and wages for working Americans, while guaranteeing funding for Social Security and Medicare.

The site is worth visiting.

Won’t it be great for Trump or Cruz to say ‘We won’! Parrot about the first 3 months of Obama’s pompous words right back to the media.

Smart liberal pundits

Completely incompatible concepts which create a total oxymoron. "Smart", of course, has several meanings and nuances within those meanings, while the original meaning of "liberal" has been so bastardized as to be completely unrecognizable. "Pundit" has come to be mean "well-meaning fool who makes judgments and assessments based on very flimsy logic", and which any person with common good sense listens to, very carefully, then proceeds to do the exact opposite. That decision will be proven to be the right course to follow perhaps 75% or more of the time.

His proposed tax on business is a flat tax on the gross minus the cost of the goods - no deductions for salaries, etc., so it is basically the same as a VAT.

I do not like what I have heard and read about his proposed tax.

Define “America.”
The land of the Founders and the Constitution? Or the tyrannical politically correct oligarchy we have now?

If every American knew the truth of how far we are from governing our own country as we were promised, they would all wish to be saved from what we have now, and Cruz and Trump are the only hope I see.

a Cruz administration would eliminate
The Internal Revenue Service...
Departments of Education, Commerce, Energy, and Housing and Urban Development...
the Corporation for Public Broadcasting...
the National Endowment for the Arts...
the National Endowment for the Humanities...
all federal regulation of CO2 emissions from power plants and other sources...
"every word" of ObamaCare...
climate science

Go Cruz!

The more important question. Who will save America from the likes of you? You are a 100% imbecile?
