They should rename the school stadium after him. Not many students his age are actual heroes saving others.

My guess is he will no doubt be honored and should be. Not many kids his age would have done that nor been expected to have that good of judgement. There's some rough neighborhoods in Fulton High's coverage area. It's about a mile from where a carjacking double rape, torture, murder happened a few years ago. A few blocks one way or another can make the difference in some parts of it. At night in that area I carry but I seldom go into that area anymore except for seeing a doctor at a hospital behind the high school and I don't carry when going there. I have a cousin who taught school at Fulton up till a couple years ago. Fulton isn't a bad school.

I commend the hero's parents for bringing up an exceptional young man. That said KPD needs to start cracking down on gangs and get the officers off the darned Interstates running speed traps. Let the state patrol the interstates and concentrate on cleaning up gang activity. It shouldn't be an impossible task. There's about 5-6 larger Section 8 projects in Knoxville. That would be a good place to start.

My dad grew up in the poorer parts of Knoxville in the late 1920's and up to mid 1940's till he joined the Navy. Being poor was never an allowed excuse for anyone to do wrong for him or his siblings. The communities didn't put up with it not even the poor ones he lived in. His parents struggled but his dad worked from dusk till dawn and his mom stayed home.

Section 8 and the welfare state that came with it began the crime problems in Knoxville. When I was a kid about 8 years old we lived in Knoxville and didn't lock the doors. I'm now 58 and live in a rural area. The state turning seriously mentally ill out on the streets caused problems as well. Homelessness sadly has become big business in Knoxville. Meaning simply missions with high administrative overhead. Many on the Knox County 24 hour arrest website have the same address which is a mission. The gangbangers usually don't show up because Juvies names are not released.
