The political left has been trying to run other people's lives for centuries. So we should not be surprised to see the Obama administration now trying to force neighborhoods across America to have the mix of people the government wants them to have.
There are not enough poor people living in middle class neighborhoods to suit the political left. Not enough blacks in white neighborhoods. Not enough Hispanics here, not enough Asians there.
Nowhere in the Constitution does it grant the federal government the power to dictate such things. But places that do not mix and match people the way Washington wants them to can lose all sorts of federal money they currently receive under numerous programs.
Handing out vast amounts of the taxpayers' money is the way the federal government has expanded its power far beyond the powers granted by the Constitution -- thereby limiting the freedom of individuals, localities and states. Washington is essentially buying up our freedom with our own money, taken in taxes.
What makes this latest political crusade so ridiculous and so dangerous is that people have never been mixed and matched at random, either in the United States or in other countries around the world, or in any period of history.
We can see blacks and whites living in different neighborhoods, but many people who look the same to the naked eye also sort themselves out. Moreover, neither blacks nor whites are living at random within their own respective neighborhoods.
The upscale neighborhood called Sugar Hill in Harlem, where I delivered groceries as a teenager, was very different from the neighborhood where I lived in a tenement.

Diversity and multiculturalism are religious beliefs with the left. In spite of all evidence, they have faith that diversity and multiculturalism makes us stronger—not weaker. Divisions are apparent everywhere and growing worse day by day, but the left only sees what they want to see.
I doubt even 0bama will accomplish that but it’s a funny thought. :)

Good analysis, but Sewell glosses over the REAL problem, even as he states it (which is unusual for him):

This is the source of the problem. These programs SHOULD NOT EXIST. So long as they do, they are subject to the strings the feds attach to them (such as No Child Left Behind, Bush’s overreach).
The fact this administration wants to just force the affluent to flee to places that don’t need or want Federal dollars (which is exactly be the result of this ham-fisted attempt a social engineering) is a symptom, not a cause.

The one place you will never find the application of liberal policies is the homes or treasure of liberal leadership.

I think they should build a ‘low income’ housing project right next to where the Clintons live in New York...and see how the ‘high and mighty rich’ like it....

I don’t know...he did when I left PA about 3 years ago...but are they ever there? Wasn’t that the building that housed some of the ‘servers’????
the gene that compels one to lust after control of other humans needs to be identified and eliminated from the human gene pool. Society would no longer have politicians to screw them over.

Nearly 10 years later, Mr. Clinton is leaving Harlem. Or, at least part of him is.
The William J. Clinton Foundation is moving most of its offices from Harlem to 77 Water Street in the financial district, in Lower Manhattan. But Mr. Clinton will keep a toehold in Harlem[Don't ask which part. You don't want to know.]
