On Muslims, Democrats find an unlikely ally: George W Bush

Taunted by Republicans to declare war on "radical Islamic terrorism," Democrats are turning to an unlikely ally: George W. Bush.

President Barack Obama, under pressure to be more aggressive on terrorism, regularly cites his predecessor's refusal to demonize Muslims or play into the notion of a clash between Islam and the West. It's a striking endorsement from a president whose political rise was predicated on opposition to the Iraq war and Bush's hawkish approach in the Middle East

They are all very busy talking about the Hispanic vote

They don’t talk about the base vote, the guys who did not vote for Mitt and Ryan, who both were obviously not interested in taking care of the country.

Those three million are growing, the politicians will not mention them

Trump is smart enough to address them. He’s getting thousands out at his rallies. Are there thousands of Hispanics out at any rally?

And if there were, would they talk about getting rid of the deficit? Closing the borders until the border patrol was allowed to function? Making America strong on the world stage?

GWB standing up to democrat demagoguery is like asking Obama to stand up against Muslims.

Not at all. Willful liberals trash you for it. Because it’s what liberals do. Work to elect other liberals and Alynskify any who would refuse to march to their drum.

FR is filled with them. And they are out in force again this election season.

Then you might want to change your tagline. Because employing historical perspective would result in ‘crying’ about the past being correctly viewed as historical perspective and learning from one’’s mistakes.

Some people have the wisdom to learn from their mistakes and work to prevent others from making them themselves. Others want more ever-more liberalism and want us to just forget all about the past and repeat those mistakes.

I remember that “religion of peace” comment. A couple of years later I was in a group at work and during the coffee break a liberal type said that Bush was a liar. I gave her a cold stare and told her she was certainly right about that, she stopped in midsentence and looked like a deer in the headlights. I then added that I had heard George W. Bush say that Islam is a religion of peace and no one could ever tell a bigger lie than that. I have never seen so many people at a loss for words in my life. They all just stared at me with slack jaws.

Tens of thousands of Middle Easterners were relocated to the US during each presidency: GHW Bush, Clinton, GW Bush and Obama.

Gaffer: "What I don't want, will refuse to accept, is another Bush family prince as the nominee."

As of today there seems to be zero possibility of JEB being nominated -- certainly not by FR posters.
Even the latest polls show Bush as seventh, behind Trump, Cruz, Carson, Rubio, Christie and even Rand Paul!
Of course, those polls could be seriously wrong -- wouldn't be the first time -- but the really, really smart guys are telling us those polls underestimate Trump's popularity, so this whole thing could just turn into a blow-out.

Point is: you don't need to go after JEB by attacking his brother.
GW was a different time & place, so JEB will fall or... fall more, on his own merits, or lack of them.

Norm Lenhart: "Then you might want to change your tagline.

If you've followed my discussion with Gaffer & jpsb (posts #22, 27, 33, 35, 53), then you know I'm only arguing that GW Bush was the best choice we had, under the circumstances, and I provided considerable detail to show there were no other viable candidates in 2000.
Yes, jpsb suggested Steve Forbes, but he dropped out of the race in February, along with the other genuinely conservative candidate, Gary Bauer.
So the Republican nomination came down to Bush, McCain or Keyes.
Clearly, Bush was the best choice.

And Bush never claimed to be seriously (or in Romney's immortal term "severely") conservative.
Bush said he was a "compassionate conservative", which it did take us all some time to figure out meant: liberal/progressive.

I'm only saying: Bush was the best we could do in 2000, and I think we still can do far better today.

Today JEB is running seventh behind Trump, Cruz, Carson, Rubio, Christie and even Rand Paul.
So he is not a factor, no need to use his brother W as a whipping boy for JEB.

Islam has never been a religion of peace.

Islam has been at war with everyone else since 622 A.D.

It must remain so until there is only Islam.
Or no Islam.
Mad Mo made it so.

The future must not belong to those who deny the true nature of Islam

John Quincy Adams on Islam

In the seventh century of the Christian era, a wandering Arab of the lineage of Hagar, the Egyptian, combining the powers of transcendent genius, with the preternatural energy of a fanatic, and the fraudulent spirit of an impostor, proclaimed himself as a messenger from Heaven, and spread desolation and delusion over an extensive portion of the earth. Adopting from the sublime conception of the Mosaic law, the doctrine of one omnipotent God; he connected indissolubly with it, the audacious falsehood, that he was himself his prophet and apostle. Adopting from the new Revelation of Jesus, the faith and hope of immortal life, and of future retribution, he humbled it to the dust, by adapting all the rewards and sanctions of his religion to the gratification of the sexual passion. He poisoned the sources of human felicity at the fountain, by degrading the condition of the female sex, and the allowance of polygamy; and he declared undistinguishing and exterminating war, as a part of his religion, against all the rest of mankind. THE ESSENCE OF HIS DOCTRINE WAS VIOLENCE AND LUST: TO EXALT THE BRUTAL OVER THE SPIRITUAL PART OF HUMAN NATURE.

Between these two religions, thus contrasted in their characters, a war of twelve hundred years has already raged. That war is yet flagrant; nor can it cease but by the extinction of that imposture, which has been permitted by Providence to prolong the degeneracy of man. While the merciless and dissolute dogmas of the false prophet shall furnish motives to human action, there can never be peace upon earth, and good will towards men. The hand of Ishmael will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. It is, indeed, amongst the mysterious dealings of God, that this delusion should have been suffered for so many ages, and during so many generations of human kind, to prevail over the doctrines of the meek and peaceful and benevolent Jesus (Blunt, 1830, 29:269, capitals in orig.).

“Lets just say I wouldn’t want to be in San Diego. The team that took down OBL and the American Sniper all hailed from Coronado, just outside of SD.”

An interesting point made all the more relevant because of the huge Navy presence there and the large Marine presence about 40 minutes up I5 at Camp Pendleton.

Because of this and the many retirees from the military there; San Diego has historically been center-right politically. It could possibly make it a priority target but there is lots of technology there to prevent such an attack from the air. A biological attack in the water would indeed be possible though and not affect Tijuana on the other side of the nearby border.

Might be a good time for those living in the area to drink bottled water from somewhere else if they aren’t already doing it.

Of course dirty bombs could be trucked in and detonated all around the city too. Should probably keep some Potassium Iodide tablets handy too.

If the enemy gets their hands on a full on nuclear bomb; all bets are off. Only the full extermination of all Islamists will prevent them from doing the unthinkable and that isn’t even remotely possible.

All the more reason to ban Islam and the Muslim so-called religion now. Not gonna happen until some city is wiped out though. Even then it might not with liberals in the equation.
