Republican primary front-runner Donald Trump in an interview broadcast Sunday refused to escalate his feud with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).
When asked about his chief political rival during an interview with ABC News's Jon Karl, the businessman said Cruz, who has recently taken the lead in Iowa, was a "nice guy."
"He is a very nice guy, he has been very respectful," Trump said.
Trump also said when he entered the presidential race, he had no idea he would sustain such a dramatic lead over his competitors, ABC News reported.
"It's a very, very big lead, so I didn't think that we would have that," he said.
The real estate mogul added that it will be easier to beat Democratic front runner Hillary Clinton in a general election than to win the Republican nomination.
"I am winning. I am beating everybody and, in my opinion, beating Hillary is easier than beating these people," he said of his Republican adversaries, according to ABC News.
Trump has been leading polls in the Republican primary race nationally for more than five months, although he was briefly overtaken by retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson in November, according to a RealClearPolitics Average of polls.
Cruz, however, currently holds a slim lead...

I trust you’ll also vote for Rubio if he’s the nominee?
Cruz is a meanie head.
“Deal between Trump and Cruz (our best candidates)”
If the best Trump can come up with is a government lawyer ( Cruz ONLY job, except ABSENT first term Senator, NOT born on US soil ), who can’t make up his mind about immigration policy, I won’t vote for Trump.
I will without hesitation. He would be far better than Hillary.
However, I will not have to make that choice.
So ... you would vote for Hillary over Rubio? Remembering that a non-vote is at least half a vote for Hillary.
Way to go AuntB...I saw you on a Andy Griffith re-run making pickles.
That’s all well and good.
Now why are people who make such an argument so worried about people being nice to them and being so thin skinned on a message board?
Rubio is going nowhere. Get over it.
Driving the GOPe and the MSM nuts.
And the Bushies, as well.
Obviously I can. I just said so.
Yeah, but you are a liberal on loan from DU.
I wasn’t aware that I was in the presence of an omniscient god.
Are you prepared to vote for him if he’s the nominee?
Fair enough. My apologies if I misread your post.
Who is he running against?
“”Way to go AuntB...I saw you on a Andy Griffith re-run making pickles.””
Please, do not confuse me with those pathetic liberal white trash actors.
And you'll find no Christian that will disagree with you. I have been digging around on this thing... It is exceedingly hard to find anything that isn't a blatant left-wing hit piece, and I have yet to see the whole sermon...
But this particular tempest in the teapot seems to have been delivered at New Beginnings Church in Irving, TX. Here is as large an excerpt from the sermon as I can find: Cruz Father: Ted Cruz "Anointed" To "Bring the Spoils of War to the Priests"
Which video, also edited to be a hit piece, actually shows Rafael calling the congregation 'annointed as kings' to take dominion over the market place - So the context is not specific and only toward Ted Cruz. There is another excerpt of folks laying on hands and praying (presumably over Cruz) at a political event... Then back to New beginnings for some pretty typical Pentecostal/Praise-Evangelical music worship. Then finally 7 or 8 minutes of Rafael's message.
I would not argue that 'prosperity gospel' seems to be present, and 'dominion' is used more than once. But I don't know that - This is a Messianic (Hebrew Roots) congregation, and this is speaking old testament stuff (I am Messianic myself). I would need to hear the greater sermon in it's whole context - It seems to be cut purposefully to put it in a bad light.
But one way or another the declaration is not specific to Ted Cruz by his father - the home-preacher does predict that he will go further than senator (SCOTUS or VPOTUS), but as I suspected, this is very pentecostally prophetic - not some anointing as specfic as you have portrayed, or as it was portrayed to you. Of that much, I am certain.
Your point is that Cruz, along with any candidate that accepts donor monies, is ‘beholden’ to that individual or group. Whom do you think will have more ‘pull’, some low level, no name ‘patriotic’ small donation giving groups or a power such as Goldman Sachs? Exactly how much would GS have to contribute to have an undo amount of influence with Cruz knowing his wife is associated with the financial giant??
This isn’t rocket science. He called Trump supporters a pejorative name. He did not call Cruz supporters a put-down name. Surely that is not too difficult for you to grasp.
I’m certain you are strange.
