NEW YORK - Whole Foods has agreed to pay $500,000 to resolve an investigation into whether the supermarket chain charged too much for some prepackaged foods at its New York City stores, a city agency announced on Monday.

The Department of Consumer Affairs announced an investigation of Whole Foods in June after finding its New York City stores routinely overstated the weight of prepackaged meat, dairy and other goods.

The overcharges ranged from 80 cents for a package of pecan panko to $14.84 for a package of coconut shrimp, according to the agency, which tested 80 types of food and found that all of them had mislabeled weight.

Last time I checked around here (Boston area), a pint of Häagen Dazs was $4.99 at WFM, $3.49 at Wegmans, and $2.99 at Market Basket. Same ice cream, different prices.

From the online sale flier:
Bone-In Beef Rib Steaks or Roasts $12.99 / lb Regular $15.99 / lb YOU SAVE $3
No sale price tomatoes, but one type of apple is 99 cents a pound on sale
Champagne Cheddar $12.99 / lb Regular $17.99 / lb YOU SAVE $5

The beef and cheese are probably overkill for your recipe but that's what people buy there.

This is because DeBlasio hates Whole Foods, which actually has employee ownership and good benefits and pay and was almost shut down for opposing Obamacare.

The prices are reasonable for prepared foods, but of course if you examine anything down to the micron, you’re going to find discrepancies because these figures are only averages or projected descriptions for calorie content and classification purposes.

Believe me, you can find much more expensive in NYC - and for you NYC haters who don’t live here or probably have never even been here, most New Yorkers - including blacks and Hispanics - are a lot more conservative than than the average suburban dweller. It’s just that the Dem political establishment here is so powerful that we have never been able to get a good candidate since Giuliani.

Trump was a Dem but then considered running on various other tickets for mayor of NYC and also Governor of New York. But he thought the opposition would be too heavy. This is what Trump said about De Blasio in 2013, btw:

“I think he’s a smart guy that knows what’s going on really big league and I think he is not going to want to destroy New York. I think he is going to want to make New York great.”

I would normally shop at Harris Teeter’s at Foxchase Center in Alexandria Virginia but since Kroger has bought them out the store has went to hell in a hand basket. Kroger immediately replaced all of the workers with Union ghetto trash. A lot of the store employees have tats all over their arms and many women in the age range of 30 to 40 years old have these disgusting tats as well. Harris Teeter is now a really dirty store and if you go later in the day its even worse. The clientele is just as bad of late. I see many groups of Amish teens and I waiting for a flash mob to hit that store at any minute. I used to get food from the salad bar but not anymore since it’s always dirty and nobody cleans the store or the self serve scanner where you lay your food and the full service conveyer belts are just as bad. Really, I don’t want to get food poisoning or the latest third world disease. I got sick last year from that food bar and haven’t touched it since. Maybe, once a week they had some guy come through the store at night with that machine and do the floors but that’s about it as far cleaning. I have several gift cards from Whole Food in Old Towne Alexandria so I have been shopping there. Oh my gosh, I won’t touch the food bar since I have seen many young Amish males with tats all over stand there and literally eat from the food bar. Seriously, I watched this one guy pick up a container fill it with a little food and stand there and eat it and fill it again during weekday rush hour which is a busy time in that store. He and a buddy of his were dining for free. Gross! He left the store when I did and we basically headed in the same direction except he turned off into the section 8 housing complex in Alexandria. So yes, Whole Foods is overrated and a lot of ghetto trash stops by the hot food bar and eat for free. It’s not like any employee in that store is going to try to stop them because all of the male employees look like a bunch of girly ass boys. A lot of ghetto trash shops there as well. Tells you a lot about how the taxpayers are being scammed by abuses and theft in the food stamp program.

I don’t know how businesses can survive.

Maybe they should try foregoing the stealing from their customers.

Apparently by keeping their thumbs firmly on the scale.

Today they get fines, in the old days they were put in the stocks, flogged or, in extreme cases put to death.

You can charge what you like for your products. But when you say there is 10 pounds of cheese in that package there better not be 9 pounds 3 ounces of cheese and a small rock.

It is possible. But under weights are more common then over.

Next time you are at the Deli watch the counter guy to see if he zeros out the weight of the container. Most don't.

“Whole Foods caters to the more affluent liberals. They can afford to get charged more for the same thing!”

That is SO true! I don’t think they would even MIND being overcharged, because after all, Whole Foods is SUCH a SPECIAL place to shop at! I swear, watching the libs in Boulder shop at THEIR Whole Foods is practically like watching a cult.

That’s interesting about Kroger and Harris Teeter. In Colorado, Kroger bought the King Soopers chain a few years ago, and King Soopers is comparable to Harris Teeter in terms of merchandise quality.

Not much changed after the buyout. A few Kroger branded items were introduced, prices were lowered even more to compete with the local Walmarts and the checkout lines were fully staffed. Kings still has the best produce and best and most helpful service of any grocery store in Colorado, and their stores are absolutely jam packed to the rafters with shoppers, unlike the Safeways, which have only a small to moderate number of shoppers. Kings is comparable to Walmart in pricing, while maintaining MUCH better quality and service.

Well Harris Teeter definitely changed here after Kroger bought them out. Harris Teeter’s employees were customer service oriented and the store was very clean and nice. Kroger dumped every last one of them and they were good employees who cared about the store and its customers. I said thank God when they first opened here since I would never have to shop at the Union filled Giant grocery store. Harris Teeter is now just like the ghetto Giant grocery store. Filthy store and illiterate employees. Kroger has destroyed this Harris Teeter at Foxchase Center in Alexandria Virginia. We have a Giant, Shoppers Food Warehouse, Harris Teeter, Whole Foods and now a new Aldi’s and a new Wegmans. I will be checking out the new Wegmans since this chain of stores seems to have a quality reputation from what I read. Harris Teeter has gone to hell here. I have been in Kroger stores in other parts of the country and they seem really clean and nice so I guess they bit of more than they could chew plus the union employees around here are just what you could imagine in an urban area. The bottom of the bucket and the managers have tats as well.

That is when I tore out all the phone jacks and wiring and went wireless.

******************

I did the same thing but the push was because my house was damaged by a hurricane in 2005.
After some five months of living in motels/apts when my home was finished I never had another
land line installed. Have use cell phones entirely since.

We also have a Safeway which is just as filthy as Giant, Harris Teeter and Shoppers. Giant and Harris Teeter have lower prices but terrible customer service and dirty stores. I am willing to pay extra for a clean store and customer service. Safeway is a union filled filthy store with overpriced merchandise. Shoppers here is what I call the third world store. I would not shop there since I would be the only U.S. born citizen or legal citizen who would be in that store. Lots of illegal third world Muslim taxi drivers in the Metro Washington DC area shop there. Seems like an ideal place for the FBI to surveil.
