A lot of noise out there tonight with some dramatic talk, the Pete Santilli operation is up with a report from the area suggesting maybe a hundred or so folks are involved and ‘facing slaughter’.

My prayers are with that Sheriff.

People on this board should be very careful before deciding that the Bundy’s are necessarily wrong, or the ones who have an ax to grind.

IMHO, what the Federal government is doing to the two ranchers is wrong.

First of all, the ranchers in question were not trying to destroy things when they set the fires. They were practicing good land management for the benefit of their grazing rights.

In one instance as a back fire to an approaching wild fire, and in the second to remove vegetation that was invasive to their grazing as I understand it. It just happened to be on leased federal ground. People do exactly the same thing all the time on private ground of their own.

Second, also as I understand, these two men served their sentences, but then, I believe a federal prosecutor pushed a judge to give them more, and so now they are trying to pick them up and send them away...for doing something that anyone knows in this country should not be a rime in the first place.

Sounds an awful lot like they did to the farmers in the Klamath Basin back in 2001...except then, it was the Sucker Fish as the tool.

I cannot say that what Bundy’s sons did was best...but I can say that people in this part of the country are sick and tired and full up of an ever encroaching federal government that creates reasons to go after anyone who will not toe their line.

I took the same oath as many on this forum to protect and defend the constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic.

I have learned over the past 20 years at places like Jarbidge, NV and Klamath, OR, that that does not necessarily mean that someone rising up against encroachment of their rights is the enemy, nay, more likely the ones encroaching those rights.

That same oath indicates that we would bear true faith and allegiance to the constitution...and oft times that clause right there, when faithfully followed, lets us know who is on what side of the constitutional line.

So, before folks respond by throwing these people out with the wash...they should get all the facts and then seriously consider their oaths. If they do not, they could easily be led to fight against the very people they should be helping

Our founders did not want to rebel against England. They wanted to be good “subjects.” But came a time when the encroachments on their rights were just too much...and so they rose up.

Out here in the west, as you know, my friend, the encroachments have been long standing and ever and ever more burdensome and more and more against the constitution.

I pray God’s wisdom to be with particularly the people trying to stand up against encroachments, and also with that Sheriff...that he will seek a peaceful and respectful solution that does not involve backing willy-nilly the federal agencies who are most probably seeking to back up unjust actions.

I wonder if we’ll again see the Federal government bringing in military hardware against civilians in violation of the Posse Comitatus Act.

When Russell Means and his ‘Red Power’ buddies took Alcatraz, there was never any talk of murdering them all.

Folks, this so-called “federal building” is not what city people think it is. It’s not a large building. Someone in the government is trying to hype this story. Furthermore, controlled burns after harvesting to kill off bugs and get rid of diseases and also to burn off extra post-harvest straw has been part of farming here for a hundred years!

Bundy and his militia have absolutely no business stirring things up in Oregon. The Hammonds and locals have made clear they are not wanted or welcomed. They should be arrested, jailed, convicted, and sent to prison. Just like BLM and Occupy Wall Street, we, our government, needs to have zero tolerance for this kind of BS.

Now about the Hammonds, it does appear they are getting abused by the government. There is always two sides to the story but since they did finish their sentences, why new ones? Regardless, this is no excuse of Bundy and his militia pals to step in and stir things up.

If a single sheriff, local or federal official is injured, I hope that not one of Bundy's militia walk out alive. Seriously, we cannot have people taking the law into their own hands.

They were convicted of arson. Merriam Webster - Full Definition of arson: (caps my emphasis): The willful or MALICIOUS burning of property (as a building) ESPECIALLY WITH CRIMINAL OR FRAUDULENT INTENT.

Go HERE and scroll down to 11/21/12 for a 34-page transcript of the court decision.

[Snip]:
MR. BLACKMAN: Your Honor, we have provided the court with an awful lot of information in writing, and with respect to Dwight Hammond, I don't really think there's any material disagreement, for example, about the guideline calculation. I think there's a point question in terms of whether there was any loss of more than a hundred dollars in connection with the 2001 fire. I think the court will recall that the testimony from the BLM range con at trial was that the portion of the public land that burned as a result of that fire was improved, not damaged, by the fire, and there were no suppression costs.
(They later claimed $15,000.)

THE COURT: I do have this question: We had argument on it, but is -- what indication, if any, do you have more than I have that when this five-year mandatory minimum was put in in the Terrorism Act that this sort of activity is what was anticipated? Is there anything?
MR. MATASAR: . . . I can only say, Your Honor, that my understanding . . . that this kind of activity was not intended in that statute.

Five years in prison? Fer Chrissakes, I've seen crime shows where a murderer served less than that.
