Registering a gun does one thing - it registers a gun. The registration paper does not stop anyone from shooting the registered gun. The gun does not know it is registered and does not care one whit that it is registered.

You are correct. Since we already have background checks and have had background checks for years, when liberals keep talking about background checks, they have another concept in mind.
Probably if you ask the average person if they think we should have background checks, they will say, “why hell yeah”. So Obama issues an executive order, and calls it backgound checks, but it has nothing to do with background checks. And when people in the know warn about it, the public thinks they are complaining about sensible background checks and that they are idiots.
Also, their must be a gentlemen’s agreement between gun control advocates and conservative commentators because the conservative commentators absolutely refuse to acknowledge that universal background checks are already in place when they have gun debates on their shows. The supposed lack of background checks was thrown out today on Hannity’s program; Hannity ran right through it, never set the record straight. For one thing, that would have required him to change thoughts, and Hannity can’t do that.
Hannity might not understand it.

BO'Re has been consistently calling for universal background checks. I heard him call for national registration in this segment as well. Agreed - he really is clueless.

FBI will hire more than 230 additional NICS examiners and other staff members to assist with processing mandatory background checks. This new hiring will begin immediately and increase the existing workforce by 50 percent. This will reduce the strain on the NICS system and improve its ability to identify dangerous people who are prohibited from buying a gun before the transfer of a firearm is completed.
FBI has partnered with the U.S. Digital Service (USDS) to modernize NICS. Although NICS has been routinely upgraded since its launch in 1998, the FBI is committed to making the system more efficient and effective, so that as many background checks as possible are fully processed within the three-day period before a dealer can legally sell a gun even if a background check is not complete. The improvements envisioned by FBI and USDS include processing background checks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to improve overall response time and improving notification of local authorities when certain prohibited persons unlawfully attempt to purchase a firearm.
Some of us believe that BHO has instructed the FBI to build a national gun owner registry from the NICBCS inquiries and the BATFE Form 4473 records. It was my understanding that all NICBCS inquiries were to be destroyed within a matter of days and the cache of Form 4473 records were to remain in the possession of the FFL dealers until they closed their businesses - at which time the BATFE would take possession of them.
