Donald Trump Keeps Pushing Ted Cruz Citizenship Issue
The New York Times ^ | January 6, 2016 | Alan Rappeport

Donald J. Trump continued to fan the flames of doubt over Senator Ted Cruz's citizenship on Wednesday, suggesting that his Canadian roots might be a problem if he won the Republican presidential nomination.

The decision to confront Mr. Cruz more directly comes as Mr. Trump, who has dominated most national and state polls for months, faces the prospect of losing to the Texas senator in next month's Iowa caucuses. Popular among evangelical Christians and conservatives, Mr. Cruz has become a favorite to win the first contest of the nominating process.

I don't know if Trump has access to some new polling or if his campaign is just getting jumpy as January quickly rolls or if the evident "panic" among some of his supporters has transferred to his campaign --- but Trump sure is getting jumpy about Ted Cruz.

And if he keeps this up regarding Ted Cruz, I may have to change my mind about voting for him in the primary. There is absolutely no need in attacking a man like Ted Cruz.

Theatre. All theatre.

I think the ticket of Trump/Cruz is forming now.

Cruz will bring the base along (like Palin did for McInsane) and Trump will bring blue collar Democrats, white Democrats, a good number of blacks, and the moderates.

Hitlery will be left scrambling to get the fraud machine running...

The governing will be the tough part. :)

This headline is so false. The media, hoping yet again that this statement will bring Trump down, is 100% focused on Cruz.

Trump is NOT pushing it, media is.

Trump and Cruz are not natural opponents, but as the two leaders, they will eventually be forced to come to blows.

Trump is cautious though, because he knows Cruz would make mincemeat of him.

its funny. I’m a Cruz guy who would vote for trump in the generals and this doesn’t bother me.

as a matter of fact, if this is as dirty as he gets on Cruz i’ll be thrilled.

didn’t say anything about appearance or family or personal traits, trying to use some unfounded doubt to his advantage.

it is politics.

some Trump supporters, On The Other Hand, turn me off to him sometimes, a LOT more than him.

The more the reality show buffoon talks, the less he shows he has to offer in terms of actual policy, actual conservatism, or actual knowledge of the Constitution pertaining to eligibility. Donald isn’t doing himself any good, and he’s doing the Republicans no good by attacking a great conservative from the left, for the left to use to attack.

That had certainly been MY hope...but that hope may now be rapidly evaporating. It’s sad to see; particularly knowing what might have been.

I was just told that CBS did a segment on this that quoted what Trump said in September and what he is saying now, as well as giving the opinions of legal experts that there is no issue. I hope Trump keeps it up. It’s making him look bad.

Is this the same NYT article that was posted about a gadzillion times earlier?

If so, then the same “Trump isn’t going birther on Cruz” arguments apply here.

The same guys who wrote the Constitution wrote this in 1790 as part of the Naturalization Act of 1790.

The Act also establishes the United States citizenship of certain children of citizens, born abroad, without the need for naturalization: "the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond Sea, or out of the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born Citizens"

All Trump said was a few words, to the effect that the DNC is bound to attack Cruz on the Natural Born Citizen issue. And they will. Several Dem politicians have already said that they would.

Trump said only a few words. The Enemedia has picked it up and run with it.

It’s clear from this piece in the NY cage liner that Trump is their main enemy, and they will attack him any way possible. Then, if they succeed, they’ll turn on Cruz, whom they obviously fear less.

Donald Trump Keeps Pushing Ted Cruz Citizenship Issue

Or the reporters keep asking him the question over again. The man answers them.
