LIVE THREAD 7 pm 1/07/2016 Donald Trump @ Flynn Center for the Performing Arts Burlington, VT
Donald Trump 2016 Make America Great AGain ^

Posted on 01/07/2016 9:35:03 AM PST by nikos1121

Are Y'all fixin? As in "fixin" to get excited for Donald Trump tonight?

Tonight will be @ the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts in Burlington, VT.

I will post other live threads if they superior to this one. For example, we've noticed that Fox News of Phoenix sometimes stream the Trump Rallys at:

http://www.fox10phoenix.com/news-now

Here's a little background of this historic place.

HISTORY OF THE FLYNN

The Flynn has been at the center of Vermont's cultural landscape for almost 80 years—from its earliest days as a vaudeville house through five decades as a premier movie theater to its present incarnation as the region's leading performance center and arts education organization. Today, the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts is recognized internationally for its significant artistic, educational, and community outreach activities; superb technical capacity; beautiful ambiance; historic setting; and world-class presentations.

As we approach the Flynn's 30th anniversary as a performing arts center and 80th anniversary as an historic theater, we celebrate a rich legacy of connecting our community with the arts.

THE BIRTH OF AN ENTERTAINMENT

It was the time of the Great Depression and the country was trying to rebound from the stock market crash of 1929. The presence of the University of Vermont and active textile and lumber industries buffered Burlington somewhat from the ravages of precipitous economic decline. "Bootleggers" scoffed at Prohibition. The face of George Washington was unveiled on Mount Rushmore. The Graf Zeppelin took to the air. Hamburger was 35 cents a pound, an entire steak dinner cost just $1.25, and Ford's new Deluxe Coupe could be driven out of the showroom for $545.

More on the Flynn Center can be found here:

One last comment.

This is Bernie Sanders country. Why the Trump Team picked this place is beyond me. It's been reported, in some publications, that the organizers were worried his crowd would scoop up all the tickets. Whether this is true or not, I personally wouldn't know, but fact is the Trump Team has offered up to 20,000 tickets on line to an event that will hold approximately 1400 people. This seems a bit absurd, and may cause a problem for the neighborhood.

It's already posing a problem for the local police force who are committed to having an orderly and safe show.

I've noticed also in the local news that some of the artists who have performed at the Flynn have asked that theater cancel the event, because they consider Donald Trump's Rally has a forum for "hate speech," but the Directors of theater refused.

Let's pray that there are no serious injuries tonight.

Here are some excerpts from the Burlington Free Press:

Vermonters who plan to see Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump speak on Thursday should prepare for "airport-like" security and sizable crowds after the campaign issued tickets for more than 10 times the number of available seats, the Flynn Center's executive director says.

“We’ve been working with the Secret Service very carefully along with the Burlington Police Department,” said John Killacky, whose 1,400-seat theater is playing host to Trump's evening speech.

Outside the venue, city officials are concerned after learning the Trump campaign issued far more free tickets than there are available seats. As of midday Wednesday, police said the campaign had distributed about 20,000.

“I wonder if the Trump campaign took into account the safety of the police officers who have to contend with large, dissatisfied crowds,” Burlington Police Chief Brandon del Pozo said. “This situation would place police officers in needless confrontations with citizenry.”

Trump does have a sense of humor. Think of all the Woodstock/Deadhead types who chose Vermont. It'll be like a flashback to the 1960s, with grandparents out there with their kids and grandkids, teaching them the fine arts of protest.

Just speculating, of course. But it sure is fun to imagine the potential for braggadacious billionaire Trump's rally in VT.

Have they done this before? I don’t understand why you would offer 20,000 tickets and allow only 1400 people in? Seems like this could get ugly for the thousands of people not getting in.

The doors open at 5pm. I would think that the police would start sending people home once they get the place filled.

Already the left has got a guy in the line waiting to be the first inside.

What is late lunch?

Bernie’s HQ is across the street and rumor was that his supports were going to hit up the tickets and not show to make the rally look empty. DT was smart and left the tickets unlimited as they are free. Prevents stupid crap like the above from preventing people from trying to attend.

Why did he pick this place deep in the heart of enemy country? It’s closer to New York than NH. And it’s in a small venue. What gives? I’m starting to get a bit worried here. Going to be around 20 degrees, which is not real cold for them, but still. Does he want the photo op of 20,000 people outside this tiny theater. Plus who would grab a ticket and sit out for hours, if they’ll probably not get inside?

May be adding a hall with a large screen nearby like they have done before. Have to know how many facilities to rent. ;-)

Yeah, that’s what I read, but 20,000? Why not at least get a place that holds 5000?

This guy is fearless. Even Hillary wouldn’t come up here.

I’m wondering if Trump has been here before. You have Stowe and Killington Snow Trails up here. It’s gorgeous country.

You’re right. There’s a guy already waiting at the front door, who says he dislikes Trump. So why he going? Looks like a young Nate Hentoff.

I fixed some fresh Grouper last night which I’m going to warm up with some nice diced potatoes and the Greek Salad that I was going to eat two night ago. If I can get Bill Clinton to join me, I’ll change it to fresh “Groper.”

Not sure about the wine yet.
