U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz overwhelmingly won a straw poll of Minnesota Republican activists on Saturday, an early sign of strength as GOP presidential candidates begin to eye the state's upcoming presidential caucus.

Cruz, of Texas, finished first among 14 Republican candidates in the poll of 283 influential party activists gathered for the Minnesota GOP's State Central Committee, claiming 90 votes. That was almost twice the votes claimed by the second-place finisher, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who had 46 votes. Former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina came in third with 33 votes.

-snip-

Celebrity businessman Donald Trump finished fourth in Saturday's straw poll, with 29 votes, followed by Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul with 28. Retired neurologist Ben Carson had 23 votes.

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie each had four votes, followed by Ohio Gov. John Kasich with three and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum with two each. Nineteen voters were undecided, and three candidates got no votes: South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham, and two other former governors: New York's George Pataki and Virginia's Jim Gilmore.

“Do not vote for Rubio or Cruz”

Good advice. Dirty $$$ behind them!

The NRSC is all over FACEBOOK again today with their presidential poll.

Just be aware that when you vote for Trump you will get emails trying to sell you BOGUS Trump gear and the $$ goes to finance Rubio and Cruz (who used to head the NRSC!)and other senate republicans!

This is the National Republican Senatorial Committee and they are CONNING you to hurt the Trump campaign!

They’ve been doing this for months. http://towncriernews.blogspot.com/2015/09/more-gop-fundraising-on-trump-name-now.html

BTW....NRSC gives Ted Cruz big $$$!

You are too thick headed to understand that the Constitution must be upheld. It says what it says and no one should be able to defy it as Obama did. This has nothing to do with “nads, and everything to do with what is between your ears, not your legs. GROW UP!

I have been active in GOP caucuses in MN for many decades. I would have voted for Ted Cruz too. Many of my friends are leaning to Cruz too.

I am not an “insider”! So, I think this may be the true perspective of MN’s GOP caucus folks.

The thing is - lots of people like what Trump is saying but he has such an ill-mannered approach to the campaign, and he seems to be so much ego driven. The latter really turns me off, as we have had Bill Clinton and Barack Obama who are examples of such people.

Of course, I may have to vote for Donald Trump if he gets the nomination simply because 1) He is intelligent, patriotic, and competent as an executive and 2) He is not Hillary Clinton who is unqualified for nearly every reason in the book: dishonest, conniving, power-seeking, unpatriotic, driven by PC, etc.; i.e everything I am for, Hillary is against.

Saw this cartoon today, and thought, yep that sums it up.

Trump is not my guy. But, If I can vote for Romney and McCain vs Obama, I have no problem voting for Trump vs Hillary

And once again I say that the immigration act describes who is a citizen at birth and does not describe what is a natural born citizen. It is pure conjecture on you part that these are different things. Just because you think you are using that thing between your ears doesn't mean it is operating correctly. Since SCOTUS has deferred to the immigration act in it's rulings they are most likely not going to come up with their own interpretation let alone yours.

“LOL. Now Cruz is a favorite of the GOPe. You shouldn't start drinking this early in the day.

It's too early to drink! My guess is that the truth of Trump's primacy is settling in with the GOPe and they are now looking to Cruz as an “alternative,” because they see the handwriting on the wall with the Cabana Boy. BTW, years ago, I was an elected member of the Republican Central Committee of my county here in California. They were a worthless bunch of do-nothings then, and I don't expect there have been any improvements anywhere in the country in the intervening time. These folks are what you call "Country Club Republicans."

So, this is what FR has become. Post a positive article about Cruz - one of the most conservative guys in Washington - and all of the knives come out. It happens every cycle, destroy the best conservative. Where do all these people come from?

If I was the "powers that be" I would look at Trump as a negotiator and Cruz as an obstructionist.

So, let’s see if I’ve got this straight....

The GOPe will do almost anything to keep Cruz from being nominated

AND

The MN support for Cruz is suspect because it’s coming from the GOPe

This stuff can get pretty confusing....

I can't stand Trump. I think he'd be a disaster for conservatism that would damage the movement for a least a generation. I'd still vote for him ahead of Hillary. Or Jeb, for that matter.
