Ted Cruz Will Be The GOP Nominee
Townhall.com ^ | 1/11/16 | Fletcher Armstrong

"Yogi Berra said, “It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.” But here goes. Barring a major political earthquake, Ted Cruz will be the GOP nominee later this year." ...

"In summary, Trump is maxed out and will decline as his voters are sobered up by thoughts of a November disaster. Cruz can pick up voters from every other camp, as people focus more and more on the candidates and the realistic alternatives. Cruz is more electable in November, has better organization, and will attract both opposition and establishment GOP voters. He has momentum, and his victory in Iowa will provide another boost. Rubio could challenge, but Trump and Cruz would have to split evenly and Rubio would have to capture all of the establishment voters. Nobody else can come close.

Cruz wins, possibly in a landslide."

The reality is Trump has the most conservative policy objectives of anyone running and he blowing away everyone else running. You can whine about all you want and it will change nothing.

It will be Trump vs Bernie.

And he actually knows the law and the constitution unlike Trump.

As long as there are lawyers there will be at least one disagree with every point of law. That is just the way it works, two lawyers are always going to disagree on what the meaning of Is is and that is usually determined by the quantity of money that someone is willing to pay you, to agree with them.

Mark is wrong, for what ever reason he has chosen his hill.

I’m a Cruz supporter and he would be my first choice, but this article is absurd and consists of only wishful thinking.

The assertions he presents do not accurately reflect reality, so his conclusions have no merit.

.......”It’s really an easy decision if we are truly being honest about wanting a solid conservative candidate.”.....

One would certainly think that would be the case....so that does beg the question if supporters are the Conservatives they claim to be does it not?.......

Many of Trump’s positions are ‘inconsistent’ with traditional American values, various articles of the Constitution and Trump’s own views in the past..... But ‘substance’ appears to be less important than style.... It is all theater for Trump as he rides on the emotional state of voters......not because he believes he can do what he says....but because he wants the position to do what HE wants...which would be something very different then what his supporters imagine.

Can't locate the SP graphic...

Check out THIS comment:

" Clinton was opposed by the majority of voters both times he failed to muster anything but a minority; it made him vulnerable, he was steamrolled by the Republican Revolution, and then impeached. "

Steamrolled? snort

Clinton should have been impeached ... and then REMOVED.

"Some GOPers so dislike Trump they'd rather see Clinton win."

It's not so much Trump they dislike as much as it is the people in America who are sick of establishment cronyism and are ready to support him over turning the apple cart.

I like Cruz too but I think this moment needs someone like Trump. He will not be a little dictator, he will have an entourage of chosen people to rely on for advice and to implement his ideas and I hope he will restore the 3 branches of government the way it is supposed to be. He will be able to mediate with Congress the way he does with his business deals, respectfully but forcefully.

I also believe that at his age, he has done all he wanted to do and now thinks about restoring America the way it was for the sake of his children, grandchildren and the rest of us. In later years people tend less to think of themselves than to what they will leave behind. I think he is honest and will work hard, his ego demands it!

Had Trump been someone else, someone without a history of narcissism and liberal activism, I would agree.

But I feel in this case, this is a man who wants nothing more than self grandiose and power. Someone who saw a political vacuum and took advantage of it. His record speaks volumes. His positions and backpedaling speaks volumes. His rhetoric and candor speaks volumes.

He is a loose canon whom desires nothing but his own fame.

Trump would be a disaster if nominated, and would lead to nothing but more liberal policies for another 4 years, regardless of if he actually won, or the RAT won...

What we need right now, in this time, is a solid, constitutional conservative. We need a man God has created for this very moment to fight back against the liberals and the GOPe and their liberty stealing agenda.

We need Ted Cruz.

A solid conservative that the people see as a solid conservative will go down in a landslide.

Go here at RCP and look at the general election matchups between the top GOP candidates and Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, then get back to me. The liberal Trump is doing. The worst against Hilary Clinton and Bernie Sanders. The conservatives Cruz and Rubio are doing much better than Trump and both Cruz and Rubio are beating Hilary Clinton in RCP average head to head matchups. Your screed is not backed by facts.

Thanks for that Joe, that data is very interesting, I find it curious that it appears that with the exception of Survey America, that the only consistent polling that shows Trump beating Clinton is Fox News. And while it is of course speculation on my part, it occurs to me that since Rupert Murdoch and his liberal sons aren’t necessarily big fans of Trump (considering their past conflicts), it makes me wonder if Fox News is sandbagging Trump with misleading or even false data.

That chart bears watching. Thanks again.

Yup Fox News has Trump beating Hilary by 3-points, and the general election is still a year away, and if Trump is the nominee he is going to go after Hilary Clinton with both barrels blazing over her and Bill Clinton's long history of scandals. And Reagan was far behind Jimmy Carter this time in 1980.
So of course Trump can beat Hilary Clinton. All I am saying is so can Cruz. If you look at the history of the polls at RCP, Ted Cruz was losing to Hilary Clinton by a staggering 24% back in April in the CNN poll. At the time some of us said it was name recognition. It appears that due to the huge ratings of the GOP debates(thank you Donald Trump), many more voters now know Ted Cruz than they did back in April.

Hard to argue with that logic Joe, I will say (as I did in my post #43) that while Cruz is certainly the more enthusiastic evangelical candidate, that positive also comes with potential negatives when it comes to the inevitable "mano a piaps" with Hiliarly.

And there is the "unknown unknown" (thanks Don Rumsfeld) of being unable to fully determine if Cruz' increased favorability in that potential match up is due solely to his own upward trend, or if Hillary's slow erosion of support due to her continued scandals.

It will be a most interesting campaign.

Thanks again.

There is absolutely NO WAY that Cruz could beat Hillary in a debate, nor in the general election. OTOH, neither may be the nominee for their respective parties.

I am one of those constitutional conservatives who plans to vote for Trump. Why?

Because he is AMERICA FIRST. He may well govern just like Bush, left-leaning moderate, but I suspect Cruz would also. Was Cruz not Bush’s attorney who just loved Bush?

The difference, in my opinion, is, while Trump is an America First nationalist, Cruz appears to me to be a Globalist, just like Bush. This is just my suspicion, although his wife’s elitist banking connections tend to confirm this for me. Maybe not for others, but for me, I will go with Trump.
