Cruz: 'Why are Hillary's strongest supporters backing Donald Trump?'
The Hill ^ | January 12, 2016 | Jesse Byrnes

Posted on 01/12/2016 7:36:29 PM PST by Isara

Ted Cruz on Tuesday suggested attacks from Republican presidential rival Donald Trump are being promoted by allies of Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Trump has for two weeks repeated questions about Cruz's birthplace and whether he is eligible to be president.

Cruz responded by suggesting Democrats are "very eager" to support those questions in an effort to boost Trump toward winning the nomination.

"It's more than a little strange to see Donald relying on ... a liberal left-wing judicial activist Harvard law professor who is a huge Hillary supporter. It starts to make you think, gosh, why are Hillary's strongest supporters backing Donald Trump?" Cruz said in video broadcast by MSNBC.

"You know, the past couple of elections, we saw the Democrats thrilled that they got the nominee that they wanted to run against in the general election. And it seems that the Hillary folks are very eager to support Donald Trump and the attacks that are being tossed my direction," Cruz added.

Trump on Monday cited liberal law professor Laurence Tribe, who has called the issue of Cruz's White House eligibility "unsettled."

"Ted Cruz has a problem. Because the question is: Is he an actual born citizen?" Trump asked at a rally.

Cruz has mostly brushed off questions about his eligibility. He was born in Canada to an American mother, a scenario most legal experts have agreed meets the Constitution's requirement to be a "natural born citizen." But some say the question remains unsettled because the Supreme Court has never ruled on it.

On Tuesday, Cruz also cited a defense by Mitt Romney, the 2012 GOP presidential nominee, who last week noted that his father, George, was born to American parents in Mexico yet ran for president.

"I understand why my opponents are throwing more and more attacks," Cruz told reporters, suggesting his rivals were targeting him because they are "dismayed" with his top-tier status in the race.

To use Hillary and Bill's old phrase....THAT'S ALL OLD NEWS!

Unlike the Clintons, Trump's life is mostly a rather open books, has been splashed all over the Tabloids and newspapers and T.V. for decades. Bringing any of that up now is just silly! He was NEVER tried, nor prosecuted for such an act...unlike Bill Clinton.

Go psychoanalyze someone else.

Trump was given a $200 million company. Good for him. I’m an anarchocapitalist...kind of

But he is no great businessman. He was born fabulously wealthy, bankrupted 4 companies along the way, and earned a mediocre return. Those are facts.

He’s all self-promotion and appeals to extremely low information voters with zero philosophical grounding. Like all phony populists throughout history.

He’s demonstrably and provably not a conservative. He’s demonstrably and provably a huckster, full of sound and fury signifying nothing. He knows less about the issues than any candidate of any major party in recent memory.

He makes John Boehner look principled. He makes Patty Murray look intelligent. He makes Lindsey Graham look conservative.

And he makes his followers look like fools.

Hank

this is bad. i dont know enough but half the experts are saying its fine, and half arent. or whatever percent. i dont know.

how does Ted get this resolved.

and why is it posted so much when he’s so far behind?

i like cruz, but was turned off by him saying bill isn’t a factor.

but i dont want him disqualified for this!!

if not now, i want him to be pres in 2024. let him mature as a man and a politician and understand stick to your principles no matter what.

i know, he’s a little too much of a religious zealot for some, and flipped and then flopped on a few things.

but Everyone HAS!! we’re human.

i’ve flipped and then flopped on domestic partnership for gays..i dont even want THAT now. they wanted more all along.

flip flopped on thinking the 3 million muzzies here are citizens so they stay. that have to GO!!

thought maybe a few laws making sure the big guns dont get into the wrong hands was ok. NO!! i shot an M4 a few months ago and loved it!!! 2nd amendment, people!!!

i thought fox was conservative WRONG!!

FR helped me see the light. :)

But I was ALWAYS solid on abortion. It’s sick and vile. and get rid of this welfare, snap and section 8 nonsense.

point is, everyone flips/flops every now and then.

boy did i give you TMI!!!!

sorry!! I’m a rambling italian!!!

I don't disagree with your assessment. The point is that ANY doubt on Cruz's status WILL be exploited by the Democrats at the WORST possible time for us. Insisting there is no issue through gritted teeth when your opposition is fully capable of MAKING IT an issue is short-sighted and vainglorious.

Better to petition the courts for a ruling before painting yourself into a corner with an ineligible candidate.

Furthermore, I believe the GOPe will get four square behind Cruz if the Primaries go the way I think they will. They may hate Cruz, but at least he is manageable in that he has never been able to actually succeed in his attempts to alter "the way things are done."

Trump is the unknown quantity they actually fear, because Trump will come in with his own "rules" instead of just trying to alter theirs.

That's not to say Trump will walk all over the Constitution. But he HAS demonstrated on at least two occasions a refusal to abide by the "informal" Washington understanding of what's Constitutional and prevailed.

honestly, i’m a simple man. I’ll let the legal bigshots handle the citizen issue.

I can’t get past his comment about Bill not being an issue.

It goes to integrity!! His wife isn’t running for PTA!!

she is running for POTUS at a time when our very existence is in jeopardy, and she Covered for him and even cruelly HARASSED and THREATENED the women he raped.

And anyone with descent vision can see chelsea looks NOTHING like her father.

bill was a good looking dude. he wouldnt have made that, i dont think.

“Trump has become what can only be called a polarizing figure.”

Real leaders are always polarizing. Trump is an American fighting for America and liberals behave like vampires being caught by the sunrise.

Donald was high on my list until this birther bullsqueeze. It was inevitable that they clash and trump moved first - from here on out they will both be on the attack to see who comes out on top.

Anyone upset by it might as well wish we had McCain or Romney up there playing Mr. Nice Guy no matter what....

Don’t be a fool.

Trump has admitted on TV that his entire grounds staff are illegal, and that he could not function without them.

Interesting, but certainly not earthshattering. In Florida virtually all the gardeners are illegals.

Typical Trumpet.

Has no understanding of the legislative process.

Desires no understanding.

Is incapable of understanding.

Is rude and obstreperous.

Typical Cruzbot...has limited reading comprehension skills, is a drooling cultist who wears a blindfold and has earplugs jammed in his ears, and only 3 working brain cells.

See? I can copy the way you and your ilk post to me and which I don't usually post like. LOL

“Trump has become what can only be called a polarizing figure.”

Not true. For example, Ronald Reagan was not a polarizing figure. Liberals didn't like him, they opposed his policies and sometimes even made fun of him. But was not a POLARIZING figure like Trump where liberals and lefties vehemently hate his guts and would do anything to defeat him.

I am neither a Trump opponent or supporter. I'm only commenting on what I see.

Liberals hated Reagan’s guts.

You either were not around at that time or were not paying attention. Reagan was not loved by everyone until after he died. He doesn’t matter now, to liberals.
