Matthew 7:13-14
13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:
14 because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Post 18 is more lenient. Not so horrific. I can’t believe a just Jesus and God would be so awful to burn so many.
Maybe that makes me a bad Christian, but I can’t believe that only the very few escape eternity in hell.
Make no mistake, God will judge, not me, not you. But the visible evidence to my eye is that he did not die in grace.
That said, while I did not personally like his music, not to my taste, he was a very talented musician.
Maybe that makes me a bad Christian, but I can’t believe that only the very few escape eternity in hell.
Perhaps you are right. It could be that I am interpreting it wrong. I do not think so; but I won’t be mad if God instructs me otherwise some day.
The question remains, though, did Bowie than do the work of God?
Also, on a slight tangent, God is a merciful God; but he is also a just one. If you don’t get pardoned, you get punished, whatever that punishment may be.
Reading it will obviously infer my own understanding. There’s no literal truth to it, or else there’d be no denominations. There are differences in beliefs and different doms though, so it’s very subjective.
Whatever one’s ideals of Christ are, he is love, compassion, and salvation. The next truth is, no man has the right to judge another’s heart or sins, that is for God.
I like his Drummer Boy singing with Bing Crosby, he clearly wasn’t ‘anti-God’ even in the 70’s. Heck, we can’t read minds, much less understand the gospels fully. Jews think all the goyim need to follow the noahide laws and you’re good enough off. Basically the 10 commandments.
It’s a conditional love though right? Love him and follow your particular church’s doctrine or else.
That’s what I don’t get about a couple freepers on him trying to damn him. He did that and sang Drummer Boy. He was clearly a good person. Powerful video, thank you.
And Christians don't. But you are correct that no one can read minds. For all we know, Hitler got saved at the last moment. But my money would go the other way.
Well see post 30, and see if you think that’s a sinful person worthy of damnation. I don’t know about the rest, but he did that and sang Drummer Boy and as far as we know was as good of a person as you or me and had a belief as much as you or me.
He did that when it was *NOT* cool. So I believe it was sincere.
The verse wasn’t meant to accuse or excuse Bowie, but to answer the virtuous pagan question. I have no idea about Bowie’s spiritual condition and, no, I would not consider him a virtuous pagan.
I have never liked him or his music. He was one weird person. His photos always gave me the creeps.
I have no evidence that he was a pagan at all, that’s a fairly serious accusation IMO.
I thought about posting something here but your post says all I was planning to say.
He was human. We are all flawed. His sins were no worse than my own, or anyone else’s.
I am of the opinion that if we didn’t say it to someone’s face while he is alive, we should keep our mouths shut after he’s dead.
Maybe its wrong, but it does make it possible to enjoy their music.
So what’s the difference between Bowie and self-proclaimed Christian, Alice Cooper?
Bowie was a private man, I don’t know what truly was in the man’s heart at the end.
The one thing I can say is that for the last 20+ years of his life, he seemed to be a devoted husband and family man, a far cry from his hedonistic younger days.
