Ted Cruz Issues Apology to 'Millions of New Yorkers' — but It's Probably Not What You Think

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz issued an apology to "millions of New Yorkers" at a campaign event Friday - but it's probably not the one they were looking for.

"I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by liberal politicians," Cruz told an audience in South Carolina.

What’s lost on me is how you figure Cruz isn’t taking return fire. He clearly is. Nor is he trying to shy away from it. As a matter of fact, saying, “I apologize... that New York is such a liberal failure” is a creative way of doubling down.

Cruz was too cute by half. Instead of just saying Trump is a NY Liberal he tried to do it in a backhanded way. In the process he alienated a lot of potential Cruz voters and gave Trump an easy retort with 9/11.

The problem for Cruz is a large percent people are not paying much attention. Now he’s defined himself in ways that are not helpful for his campaign. He can double down all he wants but it doesn’t matter what he says now to the people who have tuned him out.

And unless they are in the closet about their leftism, they know what Cruz was talking about. If the standard for the trump supporter is that we cannot now bitch about NY values without supposedly tarring EVERYONE, then I don’t wanna hear one solitary Trump supporter bitch about DC without disclaimers attached either. Because the 5 conservatives there might be offended.

This is SJW crap and unworthy of conservatives.

Tsk, tsk, tsk....calm down.

You're a Cruzite, you don't like Trump, I get that. Cruz walks on water, as far as you're concerned and your blinkers aren't helping you any.

How long have you/your ancestors lived in N.Y ?

That “SJW crap” got the kenyan 8 years in the White Hut. Time for conservatives to not worry about style points and “Just win baby”.

What you probably don’t know is that Trump never pretended to be an actor - it show was Reality TV - he played himself. Now, little Teddy always aspired to be an actor, and that’s what lawyers do - they act. Have you watched his impressions of different people? Just do some research, and you will find out who the actor really is.

A fine man? Do you know him personally? He’s arrogant and a hot dogger, and unlikable. Just because he fools you doesn’t mean he fools the rest of us.

It was a mistake for Cruz to use that term, same as if he'd said “California values.” People would have accused him of being against Disneyland.

But NY is not defensible for it's political and social values. They vote for Cuomo’s, DeBlasio’s and every idiot communist that comes down the pike.

All I have heard from my grandson for the last couple of years is how bad corporations are and how evil rich people are, and he is only in fourth grade. He told me that capitalism is bad and causes all our problems. I explained to him in simple terms what capitalism is and how people in this country are better off because of it.

You're either a liar, completely clueless or both. Cruz was the director of the Office of Policy Planning at the Federal Trade Commission, an associate deputy attorney general at the United States Department of Justice, and domestic policy advisor to President George W. Bush on the 2000 George W. Bush presidential campaign. He served as Solicitor General of Texas from 2003 to 2008, appointed by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott, He was the first Hispanic, and the longest-serving solicitor general in Texas history. Cruz was also an adjunct professor of law from 2004 to 2009 at the University of Texas School of Law in Austin, where he taught U.S. Supreme Court litigation.

Show me anything in Barry's resume that comes close.

How far back you wanna go? Before there was an America? Some are Mohawk on my mother’s side. They sorta predate the state.

I told you in no uncertain terms that I would agree with it regardless of Cruz. Trump has zero to do with it. Cruz has zero to do with it. Calling me a Cruz guy has zero to do with it. When I left NYS 2 DECADES ago, Ted Cruz was still in law school.

So now what’s the excuse for me to show I’m somehow wrong or unqualified to speak on NY values?

Actually here’s an example. I did not email South40 on this. Watch and learn:

I think California is as big a rathole as NYC and filled with liberals from one end to the other. I lived their briefly and would never go back.

Now, lets see if South is personally offended because he remotely thinks I refereed to him or anyone like him. I’m gonna bet he isn’t. I’m gonna bet he knows who and what I’m talking about dispite not adding disclaimer exceptions.

Everyone knows that both NY and Cali are cesspools of liberalism. And it doesn't offend me at all that someone, anyone, should point that out.

I own a business here. Were it not for that I would have left California long ago.

Norm, you are misunderstanding my post. I was curious how long your family had been there, is all, because usually, most people have a soft spot for where they and/or their ancestors came from.

Sure I know what the state of things in N.Y. are like and has been for a while. And de Blasio is worse than Dinkens, which I didn't think possible. OTOH, what Cruz said and keeps saying is beyond the pale. If he had phrased it differently, it would have been okay, but he didn't.

And that blows to hell any of these spazzing Trump supporter’s assertions that all the conservatives left in NYC are somehow offended by TC’s comments.

Go ahead, nopardons. explain how this can be!

I have lived in Cali since I moved here to attend college in 1976. I do not have a"soft spot" for this cesspool of liberalism.

No it isn’t beyond anything. It’s the truth. As for soft spots, I hope that all the conservatives there leave so we can wall it off from civilized society and let it rot in it’s own disease.

We left in '73, but I don't want it walled off.

Perhaps you don't have any fond memories nor family stories, or your family never left its mark on where they were, but that's different for me. I have a soft spot for all of the above and then some.

I'm sorry that you don't have any of that.
