I suspect the GOP establishment promised Haley something bigger than the governorship, if she and SC can derail Trump and/or Cruz.

I suspect that was the reason for her vicious attack in her reply to the SOTU. It was her only real chance at a national stage.

I don't have as much of a problem with Haley or any other Republican politician disagreeing with Trump as I do with Haley attacking Trump as part of the her SOTU response. That converted it from a politician opposing Trump, to the party itself opposing Trump.

And though I'm not a Donald fan, I thought he handled that brilliantly at the debate. Just took her criticism and used it to strengthen his own campaign.
