Do you think Trump is not sincere in what he says ?
Honestly, I desperately hope he is because I think he’s very likely to be the nominee and is likely to win. I have questions about Trump, just as I do EVERY candidate - some many more than others. I am not willing to overlook or disregard my doubts about any candidate, including Ted Cruz.
Just so you know, I was assigned to the Bush White House shortly after 9/11 as a senior counterterrorism advisor - not beccause I was politically involved, but because of my experience. I learned a great deal about the workings of the government at the very highest levels. There is a great deal more to public figures than what the public sees. Assuming some level of character, things you would think the president would want known to the public frequently aren’t. Alliances, temporary and permanent, are formed to accomplish specific policy objectives and occasionally deals are made that we might find objectionable. Read Trump’s book, “Art of the Deal”, read between the lines and you’ll find he operates the same way; he’s a negotiator.
There are no perfect candidates - not Donald Trump and not Ted Cruz. If I think I’ve found one, I’ll probably begin to question my sanity. My interest is in seeing Trump’s willingness to address uncomfortable issues in a direct, straightforward manner blended with Cruz’s commitment to constitutional principles. In other words, I’d like to see both men emerge from the campaign with their reputations intact.
