Trump calls for higher ethanol mandate
The Hill ^ | 1/19/2016 | Timothy Kama

Donald Trump said Tuesday that federal regulators should increase the amount of ethanol blended into the nation’s gasoline supply.

Speaking at an event hosted by the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association, Trump, a real estate mogul and the front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, said the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ought to follow the ethanol volumes Congress set in 2007.

“The EPA should ensure that biofuel ... blend levels match the statutory level set by Congress under the [renewable fuel standard],” Trump said. The mandate is popular in Iowa, which hosts the nation's first caucuses.

Pandering don’t get much more blatant than that. The GOPe probably just blew a big sigh of relief that Trump won’t rock their “Big Corn” boat.

Meanwhile, the rest of us are still wondering why we are turning food into fuel while paying sky-high prices for beef. If I was a multi-billionaire, it might not bother me so much...

No kidding. Ethanol gives mechanics job security. Plus, ethanol production is uncommonly inefficient.

Once ethanol is pumped, it is stable for less than 30 days. It starts turning into water and jello. Water in your engine not good.

“You can stand on principle all you want, but the pragmatic Politian will weigh principles against vices”

In other words, just the same old politician who will say anything to get elected and then do what he wants. Sounds a whole lot like the scondrels that we have running the GOP now. Guess principles don’t matter after all. Thank you for telling us where you, and Trump stand.

Then put a tariff on Saudi Oil. Instead you want to put a tariff on the American people to fund gasoline additives that destroy your engine and put North Dakota and Alaskan roughnecks out of work.

Do both. Developing home grown fuels can be seen as a self defense program. And American domestic oil extraction/production is also subsidized so don’t kid yourself.

Judging by the waistlines of many in that part of the country they are eating maybe too much beef and pork.

We have more oil under our ground than we can dream of. We don't need to turn corn into biofuels. God intended that Corn be turned into whiskey and corn flakes.

IIRC those subsidies were ended. If they weren't then they need to be.

We have had subsidies for ethanol since Ronald Reagan - who supported them by the way. Sorry, this is not a hill any of you should die on.

In the 1980's Reagan stood on principle in his zeal to fight for freedom. He armed the Muslims in Afghanistan with missiles to knock out Soviet air power. It worked. They drove out the Soviets leading to the fall of the Communists. It led to the rise of the Taliban and Al Quaeda. He essentially sowed the seeds of our war with Islam. You can stand on principle all you want. Be careful, it'll come back to bite you in the ass.

The oil that is underground is not cheap to get to oil. If oil is below a certain price it is not cost effective to get it out of the ground. I support subsidies for this as well - because it leads to independence from foreign oil.

“...Judging by the waistlines of many in that part of the country they are eating maybe too much beef and pork...”

Spoken like a true Trump supporter. You represent him well. Meanwhile, our society - including the seniors who *aren’t* multi-billionaires and on fixed incomes - will continue to pony up more taxes *and* pay higher prices in the marketplace due to govt meddling in the markets that Trump declared support for in order to pander/buy the votes of Iowa corn farmers.

That’s awesome.

Good luck with Trump!

I wish Mark Levin would endorse Cruz and go on the road with him. Imagine Mark telling it to the folks, would be powerful. Hey maybe Mark would consider VP... No we need him in his chair

Really? What should we expect to see in your posting history? A comedy routine?

Who am *I* kidding, right? It’s a trick question - I already looked and gave up after the first page of insults and invective. But keep on “representin’” Trump. I’m sure you are doing him a favor, Mr.”Trumpinator”! Or do you prefer something a bit less formal like:

“Chuckles, the Trumpinatin’ purveyor of mirth”?

Give me credit - I’m trying...

And Ronald Reagan was absolutely right! He didn’t say he was anti-communist running and turn completely around after he got elected.

If he stayed out of Afghanistan, the Soviets would have slowly bled to death keeping down the Afghani Muslims and foreign Muslim fighters. We likely would be out of the loop today. Instead we kept an active presence and became a target.

You might be right. But it could have blown into a world war too. I will still stick with Reagan’s actions.
