He's pumping iron - and squeezing taxpayers for $40,000 a year.

An NYPD officer who retired with a disability pension now regularly participates in bodybuilding competitions - and pension rules permit it.

Derek Huebner retired on Aug. 31, 1996 after six years on the force, according to the New York City Police Pension Fund.

He receives $40,885.20, tax-free plus benefits, every year from the fund, which has come under scrutiny following reports in the Daily News.

"There's no law against it," Huebner said when asked about his receiving a disability pension while bodybuilding.

You used to be a cop... Do you really need there to be a “law against it” in order to know it’s not right?

We live in an Obama world where “technically right is the best kind of right.”

For police and fire, the disability is really part of retirement plan and is similar to being able to qualify for early retirement. He basically earned his benefit.

Yes, but most of them would be 20 years or better on the force before retiring. This guy had 6 years and drawing a very nice pension because he says he is hurt.
Judging by those pics, he doesn’t look hurt/.

Full retirement and healthcare for life after 20, nice gig if you can get it.

I’d say the “rehab” has WORKED!

I mean better than it has for anyone ever before, but obviously it has worked.

LOL!

Yeah, but if you think about that fact a lot of retired cops are paying alimony or commit suicide a few years after they retire, doesn’t seem like a lot.
Plus, military can retire after 20 and get the same thing. But, less retirement pay and crappy healthcare.
Public sector jobs rock. Being a cop or a fireman or even some desk wonk means a hefty benefit plan. Could that be the reason so many cities are going tits up?

It’s news when a public employee on disability is NOT doing something like this.
