I have no problem with Petraeus being demoted. If an enlisted man or Company grade officer had done the same thing he did, they would be in prison. Petraeus got off too easy. No one is above the law period. If I “mishandle” classified material I’m done. I lose my job and go to prison. Why should Petraeus or Hillery be any different?

Here’s what bothers me: grade determinations must be done before the service member retires. If they made a determination and processed his retirement package, and his retirement date has come and gone, it should be too late to revise.

I’m with you on that one! General officers, like politicians, have a different set of rules that apply to them. Four stars are “demoted” to two stars and retired, while sergeants go to Leavenworth. And yes, I’m a retired officer - just not a flag officer.
