Bob Dole Warns of ‘Cataclysmic’ Losses With Ted Cruz, and Says Donald Trump Would Do Better
NY Times ^

Posted on 01/20/2016 1:23:56 PM PST by springwater13

Bob Dole, the former Kansas senator and 1996 Republican presidential nominee, has never been fond of Senator Ted Cruz of Texas. But in an interview Wednesday, Mr. Dole said that the party would suffer "cataclysmic" and "wholesale losses" if Mr. Cruz was the nominee, and that Donald J. Trump would fare better.

"I question his allegiance to the party,” Mr. Dole said of Mr. Cruz. "I don't know how often you've heard him say the word ‘Republican’ — not very often." Instead, Mr. Cruz uses the word "conservative," Mr. Dole said, before offering up a different word for Mr. Cruz: "extremist."

"I don’t know how he's going to deal with Congress," he said. “Nobody likes him."

But Mr. Dole said he thought Mr. Trump could "probably work with Congress, because he's, you know, he's got the right personality and he’s kind of a deal-maker."

The remarks by Mr. Dole reflect wider unease with Mr. Cruz among members of the Republican establishment, but few leading members of the party have been as candid and cutting.

"If he’s the nominee, we're going to have wholesale losses in Congress and state offices and governors and legislatures," said Mr. Dole, who served in the House and Senate for 35 years and won the Iowa caucuses twice. He described Mr. Cruz as having falsely "convinced the Iowa voters that he’s kind of a mainstream conservative."

The only person who could stop Mr. Cruz from capturing the nomination? "I think it's Trump," Mr. Dole said, adding that Mr. Trump was "gaining a little."

Gosh, President Dole knows what he is talking about. Moderate candidates like Dole win! Just ask Presidents McCain and Romney.

“The option they can vote for a felon (Hillary) or a true conservative. Most rats will stay home.”

No way.
If it was cruz vs hitlery they would come out in force for that yenta. Ive liked cruz since he was elected but come on, if he got the nomination he wouldn’t have a chance in the world. He’s a religious conservative. The worst sort of person according to every rat I know.

After the bombing there was a huge outpouring of support for the survivors and for the families of the victims. People gave food, blankets, cash, whatever they had.

Some of this went through radio station drives or accounts set up in local banks, but a lot of it was given by people who sought out those who were injured or had lost families and gave in person.

After a few weeks of this, the Red Cross (chaired at that time by Elisabeth Dole) began to run public service announcements proclaiming that the best way to help the bombing victims was to make centralized donations to the Red Cross earmarked for the bombing victims.

People did, and it was later revealed that all of the donations were then funneled into the Red Cross general fund. There was no amends made when she got busted, she just dropped out of public appearance for a while. Thus there has been no forgiveness.

Dole still carried Oklahoma against Clinton, but that was probably due to Clinton allowing Tyson to dump all that poultry poop in rivers that flowed into Oklahoma.

Uh oh...here comes the Bob Dole hatred thread.
*****************************************************

Well, I guess some folks who formerly disliked RINO losers such as Bob Dole and hated ethanol mandates have a sudden change of heart when DEAR LEADER allies with RINOs such as Dole and learns to love MANDATES (after all, they add so much efficiency to the economy).

ALL HAIL OUR FEARLESS LEADER...

Uh oh...here comes the Bob Dole hatred thread.

I greatly respect Bob Dole's service in WWII. He was a legitimate war hero who gave much more of himself than most of the rest of us will ever be called upon to do.

Regardless, he was a terrible Presidential candidate and if he had managed to beat Clinton he would have been a mediocre President.

Now he just needs to quietly fade away.

I don’t know what thread you’re reading, but on this one Cruz supporters couldn’t be more thrilled that Dole endorsed Trump. It solidifies The Donald as the last remaining hope for the old guard. Trump they know they can deal with. Cruz they hate.

No comparison. Glen Beck is a goofball, but he isn’t GOPe. We have people on here hoping Trump will be a dictator who smashes the heads in of the Establishment. Yet, he’s out there claiming he’ll make deals with them.
