What gets me is the “warning” about Trump was how he is all bluster and if president will alienate people and get nothing done. Now the complaint is the Establishment is cozying up to him and he will work with them to make deals.
So which is it? The truth is Trump knows how to use the bully pulpit to get people from various factions to come a lot closer to his position than theirs. That’s a good thing. He will get things done - without selling the farm like the GOP has been doing for years.
You know what I dislike more than Trump?
Fellow “conservatives” demanding we march in lock step with the herd, demanding we deny the truths we see and toe-the-line with the rest of the mob.
Trump is succeeding in splitting the base at this point. Which many of us warned about snd were lampooned for evening thinking it.
HERE ON FREEREPUBLIC, we have name-calling posts simply because we are not willing to drink the swill Trump is selling.
Principles do not change even if many Republicans have abandoned theirs. I will only support candidate who believe in.
The right to life (Trump has no history of pro life views)
religious freedom (Trump wouldn’t stand up for Kim Davis)
The second amendment (Trump sounds good now but supported an assault weapons ban)
limited government (I have never heard Trump talk about this)
the Constitution (I have never heard Trump talk much about this)
Checks and balances (Trump has indicated that he might follow Obamas lead and continue to expand the power of the executive branch at the expense of the legislative branch)
Private Property Rights (Trump supports the aweful Kelo decision)
Federalism and the 10th Amendment (Not sure where Trump stands on this.)

National Review and Krauthammer can go take a flying leap. I have read and agree with conservative ideas. I believe it works some of the time and our Constitution is based on these kind of ideas...but others also. We don’t want to get burned again. Trump has a lot of what we need and what the GOP better understand to win. Most of us that read here and some of the other so called conservative sites don’t live in such a narrow world.
