In 2013 and 2014, Donald Trump Funded John Boehner and Mitch McConnell Against the Tea Party
The Resurgent ^ | January 22, 2016 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/22/2016 9:09:51 PM PST by TBP

In 2013, the tea party rallied to Matt Bevin against Donald Trump. RedState and tea party groups around the country swung into action in an ultimately unsuccessful bid to get Matt Bevin through the primary against Mitch McConnell. We were completely out-funded by establishment interests and Washington lobbyists.

It turns out, one of those establishment interests was Donald J. Trump.

In 2013, Donald Trump gave $220,000.00 to organizations, many of them dedicated to stamping out the Tea Party. From Karl Rove’s American Crossroads to Mitch McConnell’s Super PAC, Trump spread out money. Rove got $50,000.00 and McConnell got $60,000.00. Trump also wrote a check to McConnell’s campaign directly for $5,200.00.

What’s more, Trump also gave $100,000.00 to the Congressional Leadership Fund, a Republican Establishment PAC that was created to crush conservatives at the behest of John Boehner.

Running as an anti-establishment Republican now and courting Sarah Palin is a distraction from two stark facts.

In 2010, with the rise of the Tea Party, Trump supported Democrats against conservatives. In 2014, Donald Trump supported the Republican Establishment as it sought to crush the tea party and conservatives.

It is seriously disingenuous to think Trump is somehow now against the very candidates and organizations he funded just two years ago — candidates and politicians he is already again starting to say nice things about.

Didn’t Ted through his support to McConnel in that race too, or at least refused to help Bevin?

Trump did attack Bevin during the election. And celebrated victory with McConnell when it was over.

Do any of these actions concern you at all?

both sides have done it. i’ve lost count of the same articles posted.

as if one person’s mind was changed by any of the threads.

ted lost me with the NY values thing.

i’m from nyc and i dont think trump is a conservative in the Reagan mold.

he doesnt’ think government is the problem, he thinks bad leadership is the problem.

but once he’s gone, a bad leader could come in again and we’d have the same problems.

but at least it would be eight good years.

frankly, i think he thinks tea partiers are loons. and if i know his new york city thinking, he is thinking it is easy to pull the wool over the eyes of the heartland.

but that’s just me. and i’ll still vote for him

"I have such a gut feeling that Trump can’t be trusted, and the more I read about him, the more I’m trusting my gut."

Me too. I was leaning to him a while back. BUt, he seems to make me question him more each week.

And now the establishment support from people like Trent Lott whom I never liked and Ted Kennedy's friend Orrin Hatch are bothering me a lot.

I contributed to Cruz's senate campaign and he has been unwavering in his promise to stand up to the establishment and defend our constitutional rights. I guess I see no reason to do "a Palin" on him.

i’m from nyc. i’ll vote for him in the generals, but i can tell you what he’s thinking.

he’s thinking how easy it was to con the heartland into thinking he is a teapartier.

i’m from nyc. and i think he’s pulling a con.

but i think he’ll be a good president also.

but one that appoints, at best, a moderate to SC.

remember, he thinks Scalia is a racist

Yeah. Where you taking him? What has he done to be qualified to be president? Debated? Maybe I should be asking where he is taking you instead.

The truth hurts. How this board got to the level of crassness it has, I’ll never know. How did we get to this point? There is something significantly different here about this election cycle and it is not good. Where has the healthy skepticism of half the members gone? They will not tolerate any vetting of Trump and attempt to shut down discourse like Liberals. Disturbing.

This is some rich stuff!

“Hey, conservatives! It’s me, the GOPe! When I was stabbing you in the back, Trump gave us money! That dirty, rotten bastard helped us screw you!

Well, he gave us money while we were screwing you. We didn’t tell him how we’d spend it. Turns out the GOPe takes big bucks from all kinds of fat cats, but we aren’t going talk about the other fat cats who gave us bucks at the same time Trump did, ‘cause they are still playing ball!

Yeah, so I guess we at the GOPe blaming Trump for our crimes is kind of like blaming an employer for a murder his janitor commits, but don’t mind that. Right now, we must stay on track, and point out that Trump is now our tool, because we know you hate us, so abandon him!

He’s a deep plant by us to get votes! All these millions spent on ads attacking him, attacks in media, our candidates trashing him, having him sign that pledge, laughing at him when he announced...well, you guessed it, it was our Rovian plan the whole time! Trump is really on our side! He’s our boy! So hate him! Love us, please, we’ll be good from now on....”

That’s amazing. Does this guy write his own jokes? He’s killing me.

I agree.

But the people here who love him defend him all the time. Not with facts but with love.

We can’t really fight that.

That article is pure BS. Donald Trump is a lifelong Tea Party Conservative that has fought for Conservative principles since he was in diapers. He has never ever supported or donated to any liberal candidate or cause. He should have statutes erected to him for his lifelong commitment to limited government, individual liberty, Pro-life causes, Gun rights, prayer in schools...
