Buy Ammo (DUH!)

I have never, ever had anyone tell me that he had too much ammunition. Not in a combat zone, not in a civil disaster, not even in peacetime. Never. Nor have I lived through a time where our governing class was so deeply corrupt, so utterly foolish, and so dangerously focused on the perpetuation of its own power that it risked bringing down everything we have built not merely in the United States but in the entire West.

Right now, if you are watching the news, you have questions about the future. And the answer to all of them is to buy ammo.

Buying ammo is a no-lose proposition. Look, the worst thing that happens if you buy more ammo is that you have more ammo. Plus, much of our consumer ammo is made by hardworking Americans, and many of those ammo makers are located in red states where the right to keep and bear arms is celebrated and respected. So you’re helping fellow conservative Americans, which is good. And you’re infuriating people like that sanctimonious, Second Amendment-hating incompetent infesting the White House, which is great.

IMHO anyone who engages in more than 8 fire fights and/or anyone who believes that they could come threw 8 fire fights unscathed during shtf is mental, doing something wrong or both.

Concur. And don't try to swim the nearest river carrying all that ammo either. It's certainly better to have that much and not need it than for things to go the other way around, but if that much is ever needed on my end, it'll more likely be due to cross-leveling ammo/magazine supplies with those who've already expended much of theirs, and come out alive...and needing more. The ability to slightly equip the otherwise unarmed and otherwise helpless is a factor as well, but much less of one unless night perimeter guards are in real short supply or a rearguard action againsat an oncoming scorched-Earth policy has become necessary.

Besides: If you've burned up your basic load x 8, I'd expect there'll be a whole lot of rifles/buzzguns/ammo lying around on the ground in the near vicinity of those who no longer have any use for the things of this world.

Yep, a cache or two is prudent, and so is a reasonable resupply at home and in one's vehicle. But there are other force multipliers I want with me as much or more than I want basic rifle ammo.

I call it an AK 74 but it’s actually the CAI (they call it a M74 Sporter) which appears to have a Tapco G2 trigger group. Never had one but online reviews are pretty good. Still necessary?

Bingo! That’s like winning the lottery compared to other stuff I’ve found.

I have a Bulgy 74. It has a Tapco trigger, and yes I have a back up non-tapco.

I actually did run into a feller who had, arguably, too much ammunition. Good neighbor of mine from Brownsville, Texas, whose wife wanted to move from Idaho to - I swear I'm not making this up - western Colorado to get away from the snowy winters. Um...ma'am? But they'd bought a house and so it was pack 'em up, move 'em out.

And so pack 'em up we did. I discovered Corn Pone - his nickname - had availed himself of the pallet-sized sales hereabouts and had an entire room full of ammo for the ages. We actually had to break pallets up so we could get them on his rented moving van. And that's when we discovered that ammunition is made of lead! Who knew?

He got busted at the state line for being grossly overweight. "But I saved lots of money on it," he sez to me over the phone. Good, I sez, I hope so, enough to cover the van and the fine anyway...

You got in the game way late.
5.45 is really slim to none lately and for the foreseeable future. Sure some folks will dump it at shows and occasionally online, but I used to be able to get a spam can for $129/1080 rds.

Try this trigger on your M74.
I’ll never use Tapco again.

Sigh, always late to the party...

But I did find Wolf 55 grn. 750 rounds at ammosupplywarehouse.com for $197 including shipping.

Considerably more than the $129/1080 but it won't be my primary.

That’s not a bad price actually. It’s a great caliber, my favorite to be honest. Be wary of the “Red Army Standard” brand. The steel casings will eventually get stuck in your chamber if it gets hot enough.

I’m not sure what they did to the ammo, but it’s not by any means reliable and I’ve used it with several calibers and get the same results.
