When Germany invaded Poland on September 1, 1939, the forward assault troops were ordered to attack and take control of the local police station as a first priority. Poland had a very liberal version of the 2nd Amendment (fashioned after the US Constitution) but the citizens who owned handguns and long guns were required to register their names, addresses and list of weapons with the local police station. So the problem for the German army was pretty well solved by the registration process. YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD NEVER HAPPEN HERE! WELL, HERE IT COMES!!! Gun control by secrecy! If you...

In a year of job losses, foreclosures and bag lunches, Americans have spent record-breaking amounts of money on guns and ammunition. The most obvious sign of their demand: empty ammunition shelves. At points during the past year, bullets have been selling faster than factories could make them. Gun owners have bought about 12 billion rounds of ammunition in the past year, industry officials estimate. That's up from 7 billion to 10 billion in a normal year.

A majority of gun owners think President Obama wants to ban gun sales. A new Gallup poll shows 55 percent of those who own a gun, 53 percent who have a gun in the household, and 41 percent of all Americans believe he will attempt to ban the sale of guns while he is president. This concern is greater among Republicans and people living in the South and Midwest than among Democrats or those living on either coast. It also helps explain the sharp increases in sales of guns and ammunition. There are reports that U.S. bullet-makers are working around...

While a remarkable surge that began late last year is starting to ease, Americans' demand for firearms and ammunition - driven largely by economic concerns and the fear of new regulations - remains brisk as double-digit sales increases continue to fill the financial coffers of gun and ammo makers alike. In August, the number of background checks performed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Instant Criminal Background Check System was up 12.3% from the same month in 2008 to about 1.1 million. That is down from the nearly 42% increase of November but is still a growth rate that would...

From: Blum, Joanne S. Sent: Friday, September 11, 2009 5:00 PM Subject: HELP NEEDED - To Protect State Revenues A Threat to Our Communities A small group of individuals are threatening to jeopardize Massachusetts working families by seeking to qualify a number of initiative petitions. One these would reduce the sales tax which would cut state revenues by approximately $2.5 billion. This would result in cuts in our communities to education, health care, public safety and other programs that we all depend on every day. If you see or have seen any petitioners carrying this or other petitions in your...

One normally expects to see paeans to one-party rule and dictatorships in fringe publications sponsored by International ANSWER or World Can’t Wait. Usually, the New York Times offers those sentiments in more subtle terms than it does in today’s Thomas Friedman column. Friedman extols the Chinese form of government while deriding the fact that political opposition keeps Obama from imposing the policies Friedman likes:

A friend of mine recently forwarded me a question a friend of his had posed: "If/when our Federal Government comes to pilfer, pillage, plunder our property and destroy our lives, what good can a handgun do against an army with advanced weaponry, tanks, missiles, planes, or whatever else they might have at their disposal to achieve their nefarious goals? (I'm not being facetious: I accept the possibility that what happened in Germany, or similar, could happen here; I'm just not sure that the potential good from an armed citizenry in such a situation outweighs the day-to-day problems caused by masses...

They can kill from more than four football fields away, shred police officers' vests, fire up to 75 bullets at a time - and they're increasingly showing up in criminals' hands. Last year, Fort Wayne Police seized 31 semiautomatic rifles, compared with two in 2003, the last year of the federal assault weapons ban that limited the sale of the rifles. The seizure increase and more reports of criminals using the rifles concerns Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York. “The fact that we have these relatively cheap, assault weapon-type firearms out there, it's not only a hazard to the public,...

While Pres. Barack Obama has, in one sense, tipped his hand by saying that he wants judges with “empathy” for certain groups, he has in a more fundamental sense concealed the real goal — getting judges who will ratify an ever-expanding scope of federal-government power and an ever-declining restraint by the Constitution of the United States. This is consistent with everything else that Obama has done in office and is consistent with his decades-long track record of alliances with people who reject the fundamentals of American society. Judicial expansion of federal power is not really new, even if the audacity...

It may seem utterly impossible, but a fairly decent ruling regarding the Second Amendment came from a California court this week. The San Francisco-based Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals actually ruled that private citizens can challenge state and local gun laws under the Second Amendment. Jokingly referred to as the Ninth “Circus” Court of Appeals for its historically horrendous opinions (it’s one of the most overturned appeals court in the nation), it is stunning to read the majority opinions in the case, Nordyke v. King. The majority opinions read more like a historical chronology of gun rights produced by...

You're more likely to be blown away by a fellow American than by a terrorist from the more exotic parts of the world. Terrorism begins at home. Long before 9/11 occurred, America was rocked by the occasional wave of domestic terrorist violence, from Columbine High School to the Oklahoma City bombing. Our history—like that of all countries—is littered with the bodies of people killed as "collateral damage" to some "higher" ideology or government policy. Slavery, it could be argued, was a form of terrorism, as was the slaughter and forced relocation of Native Americans. And so on. Lately we seem...

Bread Lines, Food Riots, Revolts: Apocalyptic Economic News Draws Eyeballs Online People are logging onto the Internet to read all sorts of dire economic predictions: a new Great Depression, bread lines, riots, you name it. And with the recession taking hold, many have become addicted to apocalyptic news about the economy. This sky-is-falling content online has the same sort of can't-look-away quality as a car crash or porn, for which New York magazine has coined the term "pessimism porn." One of the stars of this new genre is Gerald Celente, a trends forecaster who's credited with predicting the fall of...

April 03, 2009, 2:00 p.m. Imperial Judiciary Goes GlobalBy the Editors In 2004, the Supreme Court sowed the seeds for a national-security upheaval when it ruled, in Rasul v. Bush, that war prisoners held outside the United States had a right to challenge their detentions in federal court. Last year, in Boumediene v. Bush, the justices continued the seismic shift, holding that the right they had invented in Rasul — a right extended to aliens whose only connection to the United States is in waging war against it — was somehow rooted in our Constitution. Thursday, the inevitable earthquake...

Since the landmark 2008 ruling in DC v. Heller, the courts have recognized what we have always known, namely that the right to keep and bear arms is a specifically enumerated, individual right, on par with freedom of speech and religion. Given this judicial environment, if we allow the government to impose a prior restraint upon the 2nd Amendment, then the 1st is no longer inviolate.

Like it or not, gun sales are, well, booming. There are a number of reasons but the most prevalent are people are afraid the Obama administration, sooner or later, will get around to creating more-restrictive gun ownership laws and taxes. And those are not unfounded fears. So gun owners are stocking up on ammunition, handguns and semiautomatic rifles. Sales are up 50 percent since Barack Obama was elected. And gun-control advocates have taken notice. In a story in Seacoast Sunday last week, Peter Hamm of the Washington-D.C.-based Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence used words like "lunacy" to describe people...

A recent government policy change has taken a bite out of the nation's already stressed ammunition supply, leaving arms dealers scrambling to find bullets for private gun owners. Georgia Arms is a company that for the last 15 years has been purchasing fired brass shell casings from the Department of Defense and private government surplus liquidators. The military collects the discarded casings from fired rounds, then sells them through liquidators to companies like Georgia Arms that remanufacture the casings into ammunition for the law enforcement and civilian gun owner communities. But earlier this month, Georgia Arms received a canceled order,...

Are you a terrorist suspect? Did you support Ron Paul for president last year? Do you believe there are people actively working to merge the U.S. with Mexico and Canada? Do you display an American flag? Did you ever display a Libertarian Party bumper sticker on your car? Do you buy gold? Any of these characteristics might lead law enforcement authorities to conclude you represent a danger to the republic. You are more likely to be a militia member or a domestic terrorist, according to a document distributed to Missouri police and, potentially, law enforcement authorities nationwide. That is the...

For months, anyone who's proffered the position that the Obama Administration was anti-gun has been dismissed as being a variety of things, from sore loser to rampant paranoid. Nonetheless, since assuming office, members of the Obama administration have steadily- and stealthily- moved against firearms and ammunition. Their only public blunder was Attorney General Holder's saying the "assault weapons ban" needed to be reinstated. Quickly, House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi - no friend of gun owners - went on record as opposing Holder's suggestion. She went as far as to parrot the words of pro-gun groups, saying the government should enforce...

“I think closing the gun show loophole, the banning of cop-killer bullets and I also think that making the assault weapons ban permanent, would be something that would be permitted under Heller,” Holder said, referring to the Supreme Court ruling in Washington, D.C. v. Heller, which asserted the Second Amendment as an individual’s right to own a weapon.

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today. "As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 It has already started.... Ammunition Accountability Legislation Remember how Obama said that he wasn't going to take your guns? Well, it seems that his allies in the anti-gun world have no problem with taking your ammo! The bill 20 that is being pushed in 18 states (including Illinois and Indiana ) requires all ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data base of all ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers. Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition is...

Anthony Lewis's free-speech credentials are impeccable: among other things, the former New York Times columnist is James Madison Visiting Professor of First Amendment Issues at Columbia University's journalism school; was fêted by the National Coalition Against Censorship this past fall; and chronicles the First Amendment's history in his most recent book, Freedom for the Thought That We Hate: A Biography of the First Amendment (Basic Books). Recently, though, Lewis has been reassessing the legal standard for how far threatening speech should be allowed to go. The key precedent here is 1969's Brandenburg v. Ohio, in which the Supreme Court ruled...

With President-elect Barack Obama set to take the oath of office to begin his first term, one New York Congressman wants to make it possible for him to one day serve a third. Representative Jose Serrano (D) has introduced a bill in the House to abolish the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which limits presidents to two consecutive terms or ten years in office.

U.S. Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Ill., is hoping to pass a firearm-licensing bill that will significantly rewrite gun-ownership laws in America. Among the more controversial provisions of the bill are requirements that all handgun owners submit to the federal government a photo, thumb print and mental heath records. Further, the bill would order the attorney general to establish a database of every handgun sale, transfer and owner's address in America. The bill claims its purpose is "to protect the pubic against the unreasonable risk of injury and death associated with the unrecorded sale or transfer of firearms to criminals and youth."

The race is on for better forecasting abilities, as the next peak in solar activity is expected to come around 2012. While the sun is in a lull now, activity can flare up at any moment, and severe space weather — how severe, nobody knows — will ramp up a year or two before the peak. Some scientists expect the next peak to bring more severe events than other recent peaks. "A catastrophic failure of commercial and government infrastructure in space and on the ground can be mitigated through raising public awareness, improving vulnerable infrastructure and developing advanced forecasting capabilities,"...

President-elect Barack Obama has made a big mistake that, as usual, the mainstream media has given him a pass on by not making a big deal about it. It’s not his cabinet nominations, which the mainstream media are all gushy about. It’s not whether he or any of his staff can be linked to the sale of his Illinois Senate seat by “caught red-handed but I didn’t do it” Gov. Rod Blagojevich. And it is certainly not who Obama has chosen to pray at his inauguration. It’s his inauguration for peace sake! “We can’t worry, short-term, about the deficit” is...

I think they are scared their gun rights are going to be taken away from them and they should be," said Nadaeu. Washington (CNSNews.com) – Americans are “not concerned” that they may lose jobs to illegal aliens in a tight job market, according to speakers at a panel discussion conducted Thursday in Washington, D.C., by the National Council of La Raza. Simon Rosenberg, president and CEO of NDN – formerly the New Democrat Network -- said that Republicans are now “paying a steep price for demonizing Hispanics” in their “anti-immigration rhetoric” – rhetoric that he said created the “fear of losing jobs to undocumented immigrants of Americans.” Research conducted for La Raza, which describes itself as the “largest national Hispanic civil rights...

The founding fathers would have been astonished by the very suggestion of a black president. Their failure to tackle slavery, which the best of them acknowledged was incompatible with the values of the American revolution, remains the largest stain on their legacy. But their success was to devise a constitution flexible enough to survive their own failings as well as those of future generations. And this despite obvious flaws like the second amendment's right to bear arms.

With two days to go before the election, Barack Obama spoke with messianic zeal before an estimated 80,000 people in Cleveland this afternoon who were drawn by a free acoustic concert by Bruce Springsteen.AFP reports Obama riffed on Springsteen's closing song, The Rising, when he took the stage:"A rising is coming," Obama said after Springsteen exclaimed to deafening cheers: "I want my country back, I want my dream back, I want my America back!"The Rising was written about the terror attacks on Sept. 11, 2001 and was the title song of Springsteen's cathartic album released the year after the attacks....

Regardless of which way the election goes, do you expect any civil unrest? I for one, plan to shop for all the things I need for the next few days prior to Monday. I was involved in an incident at the VA yesterday out of the clear blue sky. I was told in no uncertain terms that, "we" are coming for you people as soon as our guy gets in. This drew a small crowd and you could smell the tension in the air. Anyone else sense any type of coming problems? What are your plans?

Barack Obama's call for voters to take off work to volunteer for his campaign on Election Day drew swift recriminations from John McCain's campaign. But it also might help rekindle a debate over whether Election Day should be made a national holiday, or moved to the weekend, as a way to boost voter participation. The non-profit group Why Tuesday? -- which advocates making Election Day "more convenient" for voters -- highlighted Obama's statement on its Web site Tuesday, claiming Obama was calling for a "pseudo Election Day holiday." While the group's managing director Barnett Zitron clarified that's not quite what...

MEXICO CITY, October 23, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Mexican-American movie star Eduardo Verastegui has begun campaigning against California's homosexual "marriage" law, and is incurring the wrath of Mexican homosexuals as a result. Following Verastegui's reported decision to lead the campaign for the Hispanic organization "Viva la Familia" (Long Live the Family) enraged members of "Tri Gay", Mexico's self-proclaimed "gay soccer selection" expressed their displeasure against the pro-life, pro-family actor and entertainer. At a press conference on October 22 in the offices of Mexico's Secretary of Health, the team denounced Verastegui. The vice-president of Tri Gay, Eduardo Velasquez, tore up a picture...

What would America look like after four years of an Obama administration? "Hardship," "persecution" and "suffering" are among the prospects in a hypothetical letter from a "Christian from 2012" released today by evangelical leader James Dobson's political activist group Focus on the Family Action. Titled "Letter from 2012 in Obama’s America," the piece clearly targets the many evangelical Christians seeking "change," particularly the young, who could tip the election in favor of the Illinois Democrat . At the end of the letter, the fictional Christian laments that these people "simply did not realize Obama's far-left agenda would take away many...

In 1932, Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected president as the nation was heading into a severe recession. The world's economy was slowing down, and all economic indicators in the U.S. showed signs of trouble. The new president's response was to restructure the economy with the New Deal -- an expansion of the role of government once unimaginable in America. We now know that FDR's policies likely prolonged the Great Depression because the economy never fully recovered in the 1930s, and actually got worse in the latter half of the decade. And we know that FDR got away with it...

Lest you cherry pickers accuse me of developing a Johnny-come-lately idea due to the political climate, let me say that if you'd care to peruse my soapbox columns of several years ago you'd find that I was saying the same thing. I have for many years felt that there is a movement afoot in this nation for a handful of elitist left-wing political groups to seize power over every aspect of American life. Now I know this is not news to you levelheaded thinking people, but the rest of my opinion may be. You see, I think they not only...

OK. So today I had a couple of friends of Nobama come to my door. I informed them right up front I was a conservative and no way would cast a vote for the Obominator. Then it got interesting. As we look at the housing and mortgage scandals arising out of radical socialist programs (and dishonesty on Wall Street) and at the corruption of ACORN and other liberal groups dedicated to electing Democrats by any means necessary, conservative and traditional Americans who love their country and are proud of its history are at a marked disadvantage. We looked on with dismay as Democrats tried every way they could to defeat American troops who were fighting to rid the world of Saddam and plant a democracy in the center of a middle east dedicated to a death culture better suited...

It’s January 2009. President Barack Obama has just been sworn in, beneath the beaming smiles of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid. Welcome to the United States of Massachusetts. Some of my friends here at the Herald used to grouse when Gov. Mitt Romney, out on the stump, would crack wise at the expense of Massachusetts. But Romney understood that for most of America, the Bay State - and Boston in particular - is viewed as alien territory. We’re the weirdo, hippie brother of America’s 50-state family. And yet, if the Democrats sweep in November as...
