Trump to Cruz: Settle eligibility question or 'get out' of the race

Donald Trump stepped up his attack on Ted Cruz on Monday, tweeting that the Texas senator needs to "either settle his problem" of having been born in Canada or leave the race.

"It's time for Ted Cruz to either settle his problem with the FACT that he was born in Canada and was a citizen of Canada, or get out of race," Trump tweeted Monday morning, on the heels of Fox News polls released over the weekend that showed him with double-digit leads over Cruz in both Iowa and New Hampshire.

Trump has insisted over the course of the last month that Cruz needs to tackle the issue of his eligibility because he was born in Calgary, Canada, despite Cruz's assertions that he is eligible based on the fact that his mother was born in the United States. Cruz renounced his dual Canadian citizenship in 2014, a fact that Trump has frequently pointed out as cause for concern.

Judging from his performance lately, it will be just a short drive.

It's close enough that he might as well just walk.

Correct.

At this point Cruz has zero change of being elected. Few will ever vote for this guy with the chance of having him tied up in the courts for years. Throw in his other issues recently revealed, then Beck..It’s over for Cruz. Maybe someday he might have a part in a Trump Administration. Who knows.

Surely Cruz has a FRIEND somewhere in a position to bring it before a court.
I never thought this would get ‘legs’ but it did.
He does need to get it settled.

Cruz should have done that a year or more ago, and saved himself a lot of grief. Plus, it would have saved us all the distraction.

The requirements in the Constitution were custom made for those running.

All the candidates for the first election; Washington, John Adams, George Clinton, Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr....were ALL born in the United States and Patriots. (Tho born British Subjects....hence the oath)

Washington ran unopposed since he got all the votes first time around. What was up for grabs was VP...All born in the USA!!

The other possibility is that he walks away at a key moment when it is nearly impossible to run a credible alternative.

I don’t.

There is no actual law that says an ineligible person can’t run in a primary, or be nominated or run in the general for president.

“No Person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President;”

It only seems to say that after a person is elected and attempts to take office is when a foul could be called.

Least that’s how I read it. It doesn’t say anything about elections or nominations or primaries.

Cruz should have done what Trump suggested. Go to federal court and get a Declaratory Judgement. Now he has waited until a lawsuit has been filed, so it’s too late for that. He now has to work the lawsuit.

It’s possible he could ask the court for an expedited hearing.

What do you people want?

This has been resolved in favor of Cruz by far more people than still question it.

It is the only weapon The Don has apparently.

Unless Moses comes down from the mountain with a scroll saying Ted Cruz is a natural born citizen, I don’t know what you expect him to do.

This is another example of the Trump mentality.

He has a commanding lead in the polls. He’s already agreed that he could shoot someone in broad daylight and his followers would still tag along.

But he is just a mean, vindictive man.

Why throw Cruz a life preserver when he hasn’t asked for one. Let him flounder around for a while.

Trump wants no competition, like how he does business with his cronies, the Liberals he funds. He doesn’t want options or alternatives. Ted has hims scared, like the insecure little whiner that he is.

The RNC should file suit. neither of Rubies parents were citizens at %me of birth. Many are first generation citizens, Santorum, Jindall, and even Trump.
RNC is most damaged. They must certify candidates eligible.

We should all put pressure on them.

Ted Cruz doesn’t find his citizenship to be a problem. He knows he’s an American citizen

His opponents are the ones manufacturing the problem.

So THEY, not Ted, need to make the first move — in court, not with their tweeters.

It’s not up to Ted Cruz to beg permission to run for President.

Yes, it does seem reasonable and even likely that a person about to be elected president will just quit for no reason.

What about people born in the US with one or two foreign parents? Are they ineligible in your mind as well?

After Cruz wins Iowa... he should dare Donald to sue.

Then Donald can lose again.
