Cruz: Trump afraid to defend his record

Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said late Tuesday that Donald Trump's fear of defending his record is behind the GOP front-runner's boycott of the next Fox News GOP presidential debate.

"The reality is, the reason Donald is doing this — I actually don't think it's because of [Fox News host] Megyn [Kelly] at all," he said on Fox News's "Hannity."

"I think it's because he's afraid to defend his record, that he knows he can't defend his record, and he's trying to hide from the voters of Iowa," Cruz said six days from the first voting state's caucuses next Monday.

"He's not willing to stand up and explain why he supports Bernie Sanders-style, full-on socialized medicine, expanding ObamaCare so the federal government is in charge of our healthcare," he said, tying Trump with the Democratic presidential contender.

"He can't explain why today he supports taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood," Cruz added.

"He can't explain why he supported Obama's stimulus plan and supported Obama's TARP bail-out of the big banks. He doesn't want to answer those questions, and he refuses to show up."

Cruz argued that Trump's claims of bias from Kelly reveal he is not capable of confronting more powerful public figures.

"If you're afraid of Megyn Kelly, then you're going to be afraid of Hillary Clinton and you're going to be afraid of Vladimir Putin," he said.

"If you're afraid to have anyone ask a question, that does not bode well for what kind of commander in chief you'd make," the Texas lawmaker added.

Trump announced late Tuesday that he is skipping the seventh GOP presidential debate in Des Moines, Iowa, Thursday evening.

Kelly and Trump have publicly sparred since the first debate last August. The outspoken billionaire disliked her questions about his past remarks toward women.

...Ted Cruz said late Tuesday that Donald Trump's fear of defending his record is behind the GOP front-runner's boycott of the next Fox News GOP presidential debate.

Another "I can't figure him out" statement.
"Defending one's record" is a term of art wherein a politician defends their recorded votes in Congress.

Trump has never held public off so how can he have "a record" to defend?

“Cruz would take Trump to the cleaners because Trump cannot form a complete sentence without his advisers writing the script.”

In other words, Trump gets up without notes or teleprompter and talks for 90 minutes from memory.

Pretty interesting how Trumpsters always 'want evidence' while the Trump-o-meter gets a pass.......yet they've proven time and again it's a waste of time and pointless to give any evidence let alone facts so why would any bother so we can hear the same old excuses and nonsense...However.... .at Trump Rally......

Fox wants to setup some kind of gang bang. Trump does not want a stacked deck holding him.

Well-put!

TRUMP (PRAISE BE TO HIS NAME!) definitely has a record of past statements supporting various policy positions whether or not he has held office.

Do you really want to obfuscate the truth this much?

I think Trump has inside polling that shows him losing to Cruz in Iowa and he decided to not show up so he can later claim FNC’s unfairness cost him a victory.

Cruz has a great ground game, and Trump does not. If the weather is bad, the Cruz people will show up in bigger numbers than Trump's. Showing up to a free performance is much different than making an effort to discuss the candidates in person. Besides, the Trump female supporters will be staying home to watch “The Bachelorette”, or is it “The Bachelor"?

OH YES HE DID, AND YOU CAN’T DEFEND IT, CAN YOU?!

You wanna call Cruz the best choice, fine. That’s your right, and there are valid arguments that can be made in his favor.

But stop trying to cover for him with bullshit denial tactics. Cruz made those votes and no amount of CAPS LOCK will change that.

What record? Hey Sergeant Cruz of the Yukon, Trump has never held elective office. What have you done in Congress of note. Not a thing. Except piss everybody off and get exactly ZERO accomplished. Once this campaign leaves Iowa your ass is toast. Pray you will win Iowa because it’ll be the high water mark in your campaign. Next time you’re in NY City be sure to ask some homosexual millionare for more money, then give a press conference and tell your gullible supporters how much you’re against homosexual “marriage”. You pandering hypocrite.

I get that but this election is about winning and Trump has the numbers to do it. The others don’t. Why do peop lu e keep going after Trump when it’s the tens of thousands of supporters who put him where he is now. We’re talking Oklahoma, Pensacola and SC. Not exactly liberal country. Are they all crazy?

I’m a Cruz supporter, but I’d like to see a little more evidence than just one picture of a guy holdig up a $50 bill. Not saying he hasn’t paid people to show up; just that I would not repeat it without more evidence.

Polls seem to idicate that Cruz would beat Hillary and Clinton would beat Trump. Personally, I think Trump would also beat Hillary, but Cruz is the more conservative candidate.

The major problem with Trump is that I fear too many Christian conservatives would not to to the polls to vote for Trump.

Hey...if Trumps and his supporters are believing him without any evidence,( in fact evidence that proves he’s other than what he says he is)..then I’m sure not going to do the work to bring it hear......looking at facts and evidence went out the window while back...it s a free for all now.

"Except that Cruz was very eloquent and defended all the other candidates, and not just himself."

Doesn't matter. By jumping on the 'he's scared" meme, which nobody leaning toward Trump believes he undermines the credibility of all the other very relevant points he made about Trump. People lump it all in the political gamesmanship rhetoric category when you take that step too far. He did''t have to go there - there plenty of others doing it for him.

Seeing a random pic of a black guy with a fiddy dolla bill is definitely proof beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Thanks
