Trump Campaign Manager: Trump Will Debate Cruz Once Judge Rules Him Eligible To Run
BuzzFeed News ^ | 01/28/2016 | Christopher Massie

Donald Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said on Thursday that his candidate would be "happy" to debate Ted Cruz once the Texas senator gets a federal judge to rule him eligible to run for president.

"Once you've gotten that ruling from the federal judge and you're the last man standing in this presidential contest next to Donald Trump, we'll be happy to have a debate with you one-on-one, anywhere you want, because that's the way the system works," Lewandowski said. "But, as it stands right now, we don't even know if Ted Cruz is legally eligible to run for president of the United States."

Trump and his supporters have argued that Cruz, who was born in Canada to a U.S. citizen, is not natural born and therefore ineligible to run for president under the Constitution.

Cruz challenged Trump to debate him one-on-one after Trump announced that he would not be attending the Fox News Republican presidential debate Thursday night because of objections to the presence of anchor Megyn Kelly and a statement Fox issued in response to his complaints. "What this is, is a publicity stunt by Senator Cruz who is continuing to fall in the polls in the state of Iowa," Lewandowski told Boston radio host Jeff Kuhner, before unleashing a slew of attacks at Cruz, arguing that he had used "dark money donors" through his super PAC to offer a donation to charity if Trump agreed to the debate.

"If Ted Cruz were able to disclose the loans that he's taken out from Goldman Sachs and Citi, then maybe he would use his own money for this, but instead he's using super PAC money which I don't even know if he can do legally," Lewandowski said, referring to loans Cruz took out during his 2012 run for Senate that he did not disclose in campaign filings. "And the bottom line is, you know what we've said to Ted Cruz, go into court, seek a declaratory judgment to find out if you're even legally eligible to run for president of the United States." In the interview, Lewandowski addressed his remark that Megyn Kelly had a "rough couple of days after that last debate" and "would hate to have her go through that again," which some at Fox News interpreted as a threat.

"That's not a threat. It's a factual statement," Lewandowski said. "And the bottom line, was, she did have a rough couple days after the debate because what she did during that first presidential debate was she made sure the debate was about her and not about the candidates who were actually on the stage."

Toward the end of the interview, Lewandowski took another shot at Cruz, this time over Cruz's criticism of Trump's support for eminent domain. Lewandowski said that eminent domain would be required to build the Keystone Pipeline, which Cruz supports. "The Keystone Pipeline, as you know, starts where Ted Cruz was born, in the country of Canada, and runs right down to where he lives now, in the state of Texas, and eminent domain is an issue that you know what unfortunately, sometimes you need to use it to get projects like that done," Lewandowski said.

I reckon decisions will be made about the same time the 50 or so lawsuits regarding Obama's eligibility are decided.

In other words - the 12th of Never.

Cruz will proceed right on with his campaign the same way Obama did. By ignoring the birthers and by winning. And the courts will have nothing to say in this matter.

All Cruz has to do is win the presidency, seal his records, flip the bird to any judges or lawsuit’s, and print a fake berth certificate! No brainer!

Why does that plan sound so familiar?

We need more than ever to have a viable Republican nominee (someone without any noticeable deterrent issues), and one who can win. So far, Trump is leading, has no impediments so far to his running, so will have my vote. If any other “viable” Republican candidate can knock him out of lst place, he/she will have my vote. This election we must pick the one that can win. Not an original thought, another Freeper already stated the fact we must pick someone who can win. If there is another George Washington, Abe Lincoln, or Ronald Reagan out there, and decides to run as one of the nominees with a Republican bent (and I don’t mean Bloomberg) who outdid all the present nominees and had a tremendous shot at winning, that’s who would get my vote. The word du jour being WINNING. So far it is Trump.

Sheesh. Trump gets more desperate every day. And I don’t even like Cruz, although I’m beginning to reconsider this...

Whatever, dude. Your guy is about to get his butt handed to him in Iowa.

Oh, and Nate Silver no longer thinks Cruz has a 48% chance of winning.

Translation: Take your mano on mano and take a hike. Trump has no need for Cruz.

Why doesn’t Cruz clear this up if it is no big deal.

Pray America wakes

A little nitpicky, but the question is what was he when he was born. NBC is decided at birth, not years later. So, for NBC purposes, the question is "At birth, WAS he Canadian? (yes) American? (yes) Cuban? (yes)"

The American and Cuban claims have to be adjudicated to be found valid; and in hindsight we can see all the claims are valid, were valid at birth.

Don’t forget Trump spent a year trying to prove Obama not eligible. He has talked to a lot of good lawyers about this and knows what he is talking about.

yep. It’s not Trumps job to get votes for Cruz. It’s Cruz’ job to get votes for Cruz.

That is hilarious. Good for Trump.

Here is some information on tonight’s Trump event. So exciting. I hope you get a chance to watch it.

You know I am nuts. All day I was so worried about how he is going to get people to go to this event tonight because of short notice.

How dumb of me. I am seeing on the news that their is a line of thousands of people waiting to get into this event. Trump has an overflow crowd with large screens.

Holy cow. Trump needs a stadium for tonight. I can’t believe it.

I am so proud of Trump. Holy cow he did good. This is going to be a tremendous event. Anybody skipping this to watch that debate is stupid.

I have chills looking at that line of patriotic Americans who some of them have been waiting literally all day.

Trump is also having Veterans at the event.

I think that tonight there are going to be a ton of tissues and blurry tv screens and computer screens.

I am so proud of Santorum and Huckster too.

Lord this might just turn out to be the event of the year. I can’t believe it.

Trump 2016.

I am so excited. Trump is going to win the Presidency. I have no doubt in my mind now.

Name one other candidate who could do this and have it succeed.......maybe Bernie. But who cares about him.

Tonight is going to be a blast. I am so proud to be watching this patriotic event.

Citizenship doesn’t apply to your father place of birth, unless Ted also was born in Cuba.

Different countries have different rules. Until a few months ago; Ted had dual citizenship with the US and Canada.

He gave up any right and claims of being a Canadian though.

The fig leaf Senate Resolution declaring him eligible (even though he wasn’t) depended on both parents being US citizens to make him a natural born citizen.
Natural born citizen means born here of citizen parents.
No other possible citizenships, one is NATURALLY a US citizen.
Foreign births and foreign parents preclude being natural born citizen as other citizenships are possible.

The real purpose of the fig leaf was to deflect from Obama also being ineligible. The GOP said nothing about Obama in exchange for that fig leaf resolution.
Both parties wanted the definition changed.
The GOP had many more ineligibles on the bench, Cruz, Rubio, Jindal, Haley.

I wish people would stop referring to Megan Kelly as a “girl”. Paraphrasing, I’ve been a girl, I know girls, she’s no girl.
